Still need a DVD player, though....

That is all.

NOBODY UCKS WITH THE JESUS!

Quentin Tarantino movies, and most of Cash's action picks are good. Gattaca. Definitely Blade Runner. Fight Club is a must, and Desperado. So is High Fidelity. The original Austin Powers. I believe Traffic should be there, too. Throw in Croupier for good luck.

I dunno. I'm tired.

Requiem is really a much better movie than pi... yes it is depressing but life is depressing... no movie shows drug use better than requiem... dont miss out on its greatness just because your friend didnt like it

I never said he didn't like it.... in fact, I think that he thought of it as an incredible movie, he even went out and purchased it when it came out on DVD. However, what I'm stressing is that it severly depressed him, and I've never been in the mood to watch a movie that severely depresses me.

Requiem For A Dream is a truly disturbing movie. Well directed, yes. Would you want it as an essential DVD that you can watch over & over, IMO, hell no!

Anyways, here's some off the top of my head

Momento
Best In Show
Swingers
Heat
Tombstone
Lord of the Rings 1&2 (so far so good)

I forgot, Being John Malkovich and Adaptation. Spike Jones does some good work.

Owning a movie, for me, means something you'll watch over and over again rather than merely great movies that should be seen (even more than once).

Everything by Wes Anderson (especially Rushmore)
Everything by Terry Gilliam
Everything from Monty Python including the Flying Circus box set
Everything from the Coen brothers

Magnolia
Boogie Nights
Laurence of Arabia
Network (fav movie of all time)
The Mission
Ronin
The Godfather I & II
Apocalypse Now
Goodfellas
Casino
Big Night
The Imposters
Arsenic and Old Lace
Charade
The Court Jester
Bullets over Broadway
Secret Life of Walter Mitty
Unforgiven
Fight Club
Star Wars & Empire Strikes Back
Indiana Jones Trilogy
Stripes
Ghostbusters
Dead Man
LOTR (extended version)
2001
Clockwork Orange

I'm sure I'll think of lots more. I love movies and good ones can be watched countless times.

Revenge of the Nerds I & II (in one release!)

Other than that, I think most of what I have has been covered already.

Can't believe I did forget this one.

Add that to Spinal Tap. And for the kung fu freaks, add in Drunken Master I & II, Snake in the Eagle's Shadow, Fist of Legend and Tai Chi Master.

<sits down in front of DVD shelf>

Hmmm....lemme see here. I'm gonna repeat some of what others have said, but I'm just gonna look through my collection and see what would really suck to not have (and I'll throw in those that I've preordered but haven't been released yet). And before you ask, no, this isn't my whole collection, and yes, I alphabetize my DVDs. Here we go:

Amadeus
Amelie
The American President (I love the "..and I AM the President of the United States" line )
Apollo 13
Back to the Future Trilogy
The Big Lebowski
A Bug's Life
Chicago
Chicken Run
Dogma
Evolution
Fantasia 3-Disc Set
Fifth Element
Finding Nemo
Ghostbusters
Independence Day
Indiana Jones Trilogy
Jurassic Park
Lethal Weapon 1-4
LOTR (take your pick on the edition)
Maverick
Monsters, Inc
Moulin Rouge (It's good, dammit. Shut up.)
Robin Hood Prince of Thieves
Shawshank Redemption
Shine
Shrek
Stargate
The Star Trek flicks (at least I-VI, possibly excluding V)
Toy Story I & II
When Harry Met Sally

Some of these movies are on my Must-Have list not necessarily for the quality of the movie overall, but for the great way they make use of a good home theater. Independence Day, for example, isn't <insert religious headpiece here>'s gift to movies, but it's really, really loud, and gives your rear channels a work out.
