hi all... i hope this is the proper forum for this query, if not mods please move or delete! heres the deal...

i am enjoying my recently acquired dual 2.7GHz Powermac immensely since buying it last week, and to Apple's credit i can say that the loudest component in my system has proven to be my ATI X800 graphics adapter... even w/ the latest ROM extender installed that brings the X800's fans into variable mode it is still an irritating source of unwanted sound compared to the fanless 9650 that came w/ the system.

searching on the web reveals many third-party cooling options for the X800 out there, from replacement fan assemblies to full blown liquid-cooling solutions... sadly but expectedly, none of them mention anything about compatibility w/ the Mac version of the X800. so...

...can anyone recommend an option that does/should work w/ the Mac version of the X800, in terms of clearance and power connection needs? anything that was an improvement over the stock cooling would be of interest, thx in advance everyone..!

Very good question... I was wondering the same thing...

Do you think this would suit the bill?

I have one of these cooling my CPU (with the blue LED) in my PC, and they do a wonderful job! They are quiet and weigh a fair bit, but it dropped my temperatures on my CPU by 10 degrees over the generic cooling system.

Here are some.

Anyone who puts one in the G5, please post and let us know how it goes.

I'm interested in which one, how easy to install and how good does it work, (quiet and cool).

Right,

I finally followed the instructions posted in MacBidouille and did this mod:

http://www.macbidouille.com/articles/197/

I used the Zalman VF 700 Cu.

The operation was easy. Noise levels don't change but enable comfortable overclocking.
