So I'm in the market for some digital cable and high speed internet, and my options for getting a bundle with both are from Comcast, RCN, and WOW (WideOpenWest) in Chicago. I'm not planning on getting digital voice (I already have a cell phone, thats enough for me).

At first I didn't even know WOW existed, so between Comcast and RCN, I had been leaning towards Comcast. But after looking at a few reviews online (and there aren't that many of them), bot Comcast and RCN get about 68% user satisfaction, while WOW is getting about 81%! I was wondering if anyone has had experience with WOW and can tell me if it makes sense to go with them.

Comcast "shapes" its network traffic. Currently it kills torrent uploads (thus preventing high-speed downloads). They have been in complete denial and PR-spin modes since it was first publicized (this summer, I think). They're also completely unrepentant. I'd avoid them.

Also, I've never been impressed with their service in a couple large Texas markets. It's buggy -- random times of high latency and bandwidth drops.

My parents have had cable service with WOW in the past, including cable internet service, and they have had no problems with them.

They're currently on Time Warner Cable, and have no problems with them either.

(WOW and TWC competition in Columbus, OH is so cut-throat they switch back and forth every 12-18 months or so... My parents haven't had to pay full price for cable service for about 5 years now)

When I lived in the Detroit area, I switched from Comcast to WOW and saved around 20% per month with similar services (internet and cable). I never had an outage for either TV or cable in over 3 years. My father has it and is very happy (he also has voice).

I would never go with Comcast just because they're liars. If they want to **** with BitTorrent, hey, it's their network, but I wouldn't want to do business with a company that lies to its customers like that. I've had enough customer service nightmares from companies that seemed honest.

A friend of mine has WOW and said it was awesome....great service, excellent pricing over Comcast for faster Internet and more digital movie channels!

RCN blows...BIG!

Comcast, while a somewhat reliable service, is VERY pricey.
