Spiderman and Pirates aren't yet trilogies. For all we know, the final installments for these franchises could kill them.

What's with your dogmatic posts about films, anyway?
And I demand the inclusion of "The Land Before Time."
And why isn't Jurassic Park on there? It's famous.

Do we need to start quoting Clerks 2? Because if so, I may have to ignore this thread. FOREVER.

That's actually an interesting point, because Clerks, Mallrats, and Chasing Amy are sometimes considered a trilogy, and then Clerks II showed up.
I don't agree with your statement 'most famous' trilogies

Your list sucks arse.
Have a look at this list: List of film trilogies from Wikipedia.
Now, that's a list.
The Apocalypse Trilogy:
The Thing (1982)
Prince of Darkness (1987)
In the Mouth of Madness (1995)
The Godfather Trilogy:
The Godfather (1972)
The Godfather Part II (1974)
The Godfather Part III (1990)
Those were some trilogies, man.

There is no question: The Godfather Trilogy. Granted, III was a bit of a letdown but when I and II are two of the best movies of all time the trilogy should be way up there. Lord of the Rings? Give me a break...

Yet I'd say that it was one of the biggest letdowns of any of the trilogies' final episode as the bar had been set so high. One was a classic, two perhaps even better and then three was a dud. Pity. Taken on its own, it's incredibly mediocre.
What about the Evil Dead trilogy ? Classic in its genre.

No, but seriously, there was a trilogy of the Black Stallion? (Also the third Pirates movie isn't even out yet.)

Where is the Jersey trilogy and the Evil Dead trilogy? And there's a Final Destination Trilogy??? If the third film was direct to video it doesn't count.

Sorry guys, I went to Wikipedia and picked out what I thought were the 12 best trilogies. This forum only lets me have 12 poll options. I did include The Godfather, The Lord of the Rings, and Star Wars. What's you're problem?

I voted for the original Star Wars. Overall it has the best balance.
Godfather? Disqualified because Godfather 3 sucked so bad.
Matrix? Excellent start, but lost focus by killing Trinity twice.
Star Wars Prequels? Flat acting in I and II, and Jar Jar in I, kill this possibility.
LotR? Good movies, but too long, slow, and wordy. Cut each movie to 2 hrs and it would have been the best trilogy.
Back to the Future? But BttF 2 stank!
Indiana Jones? Second best trilogy. Fun, funny, fast-paced.
No option for the Jurassic Park movies? They were pretty good. Not "fanatic-inducing" good, but solid entertainment.

Star Wars, hands down.
Godfather would win if the last movie didn't suck ass, but it did. So SW already has it beat with three great movies.

With the original Star Wars series on there, I don't see how any others can have a chance. If I were choose a second, it would be The Lord of the Rings Trilogy.

Return of the Jedi rules. Who cares if, for a few minutes, midgets in ewok suits dance?
Wouldn't you dance if the massive sphere of oppression that hovered above your planet was destroyed?

I just think Godfather I & II are two of the best movies ever made, and I just kind of ignore Godfather III. Star Wars is also one of the best, but still not as good as either of the two Godfathers, and the other two Star Wars, well I try but can't ignore them.

Hello... ROBOCOP!!! <kidding>
IMHO it's Star Wars (original). When someone says "I just watched the trilogy." I assume they mean star wars.
Godfather would be my sequel, but three killed it. The consistency/quality from I and II just wasn't in III.

Since Evil Dead II is a remake of Evil Dead, those two and Army of Darkness don't count as a trilogy.
What about X-Men?

One of the main points often argued against the sequel idea, is that the book is destroyed in The Evil Dead, though seen again in Evil Dead II. After this scene the cover is of the book is never shown again, which supports the sequel argument.
Differences between the recap and the actual events of the first movie are mainly attributed to Raimi's inability to obtain footage from the first movie due to the rights being owned by several different companies in different worldwide territories. Following that, he decided to take a few creative licenses with the story to help the flow of the plot. This is the film which introduces the famous chainsaw attached to Ash's arm.
The film was followed by Army of Darkness, which continues with Ash's adventures in the medieval fantasy world into which he was transported at the end of Evil Dead II.In the special edition version of Army of Darkness, on the commentary, the question is posed to Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell. They comment that the three films can be edited together as a whole. Though they don't comment on whether this means Evil Dead II, is a sequel or remake"
Evil Dead II is a rehash of Evil Dead. Not a sequel.

There wasn't a recap between Evil Dead and Evil Dead II. Some of the same footage was used and what couldn't be used was reshot. There was a recap between Evil Dead I/II and Army of Darkness.
The story for Evil Dead II was the same as Evil Dead with some slight changes. It also was in color.

By far its Godfather followed by a close second of the original Starwars. Totally two different movies but Godfather its just a great classic with awesome actors. I will admit the second one was not the best of the 3, but its apart of the trilogy so what can I say.

It's been a while since I've watched Evil Dead I also, but I don't remember there being a recap of I at the beginning of II. I do remember scenes being in both movies.
