So Jessi and I went to Wales with my dad this past Spring. I took a lot of photos (over 300). About 80 of them turned out well enough that I put them online. And I just now finally got around to created a SmartSet on Zooomr of them. I think there's some pretty good ones in there so I felt like sharing. We spent most of our time in Llangollen and Dolgellau, but there are also a few pictures from Harlech Castle and from our short, but somewhat adventurous trip to Harlech to see it, as well as from the Valle Crucis Abbey outside of Llangollen and our hike out to there.

Here they are: Wales (photoset) | Zooomr Photo Sharing

A few of my favorites:

Probably my favorite thing about shooting in Wales was the colors. They were absolutely amazing. In very very few of the pictures (the middle one here being one of the obvious exceptions) did I do anything to enhance the colors, in fact I actually toned them down in a some of the pictures.

It looks like it was visually a very exciting trip. Some day I'll get to that side of the water and see such places for myself. Great pictures!

Wales is a very beautiful place. My favorite is how everywhere you go you see signs in English and Welsh. It really cracks me up at the tourist centers...if your from Wales and speak Welsh then you probably don't need to know where the tourist center in Wales is, right?
One thing that always drove me nuts were the low flying harrier fighter jets that flew by every few hours.

I really like that part of the world. England and Ireland are so cool. My dad's side of the family is almost exclusively Irish, I'd love to go back and visit the places where my family lived for centuries.

I like. I'm curious about the kayaks in the "sluice". Is this part of a canal system?

Welsh people can be tourists in Wales, as well. Someone from the north can be visiting the south and wish to enquire about local things worth seeing.

Mostly, though, I think it’s to do with Welsh policies: as far as I know, all official signs must be bilingual in Wales. And it doesn’t hurt tourism, either, showing off that oddity they call a language a bit.

Beautiful pictures, nonhuman—Wales is such a wonderful place. I really need to go and spend some more time there (I’ve been there twice, and both times didn’t even manage to spend a full 24 hours), if for nothing else then to take a new picture of the train station sign in Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysilio gogogoch. Sadly, I’ve managed somehow to lose the one I took while there first time around.

Yeah, there's a huge canal system there. One of the towns we stayed in (Llangollen) is right on an old canal coming from a slate quarry that they used to use to ferry slate around. Nowadays it's mostly a tourist thing. there are a lot of people who rent or own canal boats that are sort of like really narrow house boats that they sail around the canals.

I don't know how well you can tell from that pictures, but those kids in the kayak are crossing an aquaduct and at that point were about 150' above the valley floor. Definitely one of the coolest things I've seen.

It's not owned by Yahoo, it was created and is maintained by a single developer, and I like it better. That's what.

My wife is determined that we will see Wales and Ireland when I graduate next Spring. 1 week in each, probably.

Thanks for putting these pics up. It definitely whets the appetite.

I haven't been to Ireland, but it's high on my list of places to go. I'd definitely recommend Wales though, it's a beautiful country. I met a ton of really fun people just going to pubs in small towns in Northern Wales.

Braveheart was filmed in Ireland, about a Scottish man called William Wallace.

He did have Welsh ancestry though.

I have been researching Wales, to be honest it just seems like a smaller version of Scotland except with a time rift.

Well, hopefully Captain Jack will be able to take care of it.
