Hi,

I am trying to connect my Win XP Pro PC to Mac OSX machine via a Netgear (cable) Router so that I can transfer files back and forth, but the setup configurations have got me beat, especially on the PC.

Would some kind soul post, or point me towards, an idiots guide. Please!!

TIA

K.

In Windows, you MUST share something-a folder that you want to have access to from the Mac is probably the best choice. In OS X go into Sharing Preferences and enable Personal File Sharing and Windows File Sharing. Now you should be able to "see" either computer from the other and transfer files easily.

Many thanks.

I had the mac prefs set up ok, and enabling sharing in the windows folder,as you suggested, then running the 'My Network Places' wizard using the url shown in the mac prefs allowed a connection, so I can see the mac and swap files ok. However, I cannot see the PC from the mac, although I know the connection is made. Any ideas? although not as essential to me as the other way around, would be handy.

Thanks again

K.

I agree, it's nice to have shares working both ways.

Now I don't have to transfer files one at a time with Bluetooth, or use a usb Stick.

Thanks much.

On a side note, do you still have to have a user login on the PC to be able to access it from the Mac..?

I had to log into the the mac with user name and password, from the PC, so I expect so, haven't got around to it yet.
