Tag Heuer has launched its own attempt at a smartwatch, one that is partly constructed by Intel in the United States. The Tag Heuer Connected, priced at $1,500, is a round-faced Android Wear smartwatch inspired heavily by the premium watch producer's popular Carrera watch, with a 1.5-inch 360x360-resolution touchscreen LTPS display housed in a premium grade 2 titanium casing with IP67 ingress protection and a sapphire crystal face.

Inside is a 1.6gHz dual-core processor with 1GB of RAM and 4GB of storage, along with gyroscopic and tilt sensors, a microphone, and a haptic engine. Connecting over Bluetooth 4.1 LE and over Wi-Fi, the Android Wear device will work with both Android smartphones and iOS devices running version 8.2 or later, much like other current Android Wear devices, and its 410mAh battery is claimed to last for at least 25 hours of battery life from a single charge.

While the Connected does appear to be a fairly standard Android Wear device, there are still some slight improvements specific to the device. For a start, it includes exclusive Tag Heuer watch faces and custom apps specifically for the timepiece. Following comments from the CEO about how high-end smartwatches will eventually become obsolete and lose their value, Tag Heuer will offer to allow Connected owners to pay an extra $1,500 to trade in their smartwatch for one of its other mechanical wristwatches, after two years of ownership.

The Tag Heuer Connected is on sale now in the United States and Canada, though international customers will still have to wait before being able to pick up the smart timepiece.

The Apple Watch is so much more flexible than these combo-smart watches.
With no physical nor moving parts, anything can be displayed on the AW screen.
No so much with these wanna-bes.
