Umm...let's start with
THE BEATLES?

Then we can go with things like..
John Lennon
Paul McCartney?

Or how about
Radiohead?

Just my first critiques..lol

Added more:
How about the new Fleetwood Mac album?
Or anything by Dave Matthews?
Any pre-1994 Tom Petty?
Neil Young - After The Gold Rush (one of the best albums ever?)
Nick Drake
Jimi Hendrix (any official studio releases)
Bob Marley (same for him)

I was excited about this thing, but if you don't even have people that are/will be in the Rock and roll Hall Of Fame, then...

It acutally doesn't because you are not forced to buy a certain amount of Music to fufill some requirement.

We were standing around here at work and talking about the service in general (of course we had no specific examples to discuss from the new music non-service).

Shouldn't they just monitor searches? Everytime an artist gets > 10000 hits or something, they should just put that in the queue for the next artists to add to the store. At least that would make one thing about this service worth mentioning.

...

Duh, they won't do it that way. Probably the opposite. Any artist with < 100 search hits gets added from this point onward. "Silver Apples" anybody? I hear you that is the only artist downloadable today

I was holding off buying the new album, hoping to make it the first one I purchased off the new service. Oh well...I went with Beck.

Yeah this music service isn't all that great if they only have the same crap you can get off p2p (not that I frequent that). Anyone who wants eminem/britney spears/limp biskit probably has everything. Or atleast everything that was played on the radio a dozen times a day for a couple weeks.

They need to get smaller bands, and older stuff. If this is just a way to buy songs off the radio playlist then it's really adding anything to the table. If I can go online and quickly get an album from a lesser-known band from across the country, and actually support the artist too then it'll be a useful service.

What Apple should really do as soon as they get a better handle on all the record companies libraries is to open it up to independant artists. All apple would need to give them is storage space (on the order of megs), which shouldn't be hard for apple to do. Then smaller bands could upload their stuff, and at their shows they just say 'grab it on iTunes'. People could go online and grab the songs they want, from bands they like. It would make it really easy for artists to get their music to the people, without record companies taking out 93% of the cost of the album. And smaller artists could get a bit of support, and Apple would make enough off of it to cover bandwidth and they'd be in charge of an awesome music distribution system, available to anyone with a mac.

Queen?????? Where is Queen?
There is only one other thing that I am more fanatical about than macs....that's Queen.

Steve: I'm a little dissapointed you didn't personally fight to get "Bohemian Rhapsody" in to the iTunes on-line store.

I was very sorry when I found out that
your intentions were good and not what

Does Apple control what's available on their service? I would assume that the record labels would be the ones who make those decisions. At least, they would have the majority say in it. Anyone know for sure?

I'm pretty sure they're keeping an eye on searches that fail. Also, when you search for something and it doesn't find anything, it gives you a link you can click where you can submit a request for a particular artist, album, or song.

Woah. I hate to make this into a "yeah you like that band/song/album; yeah noone has heard of it; yeah so that makes you cool" thread. So let's not.

Just to be clear, I'm referring to the fact that OK Computer is not their best album. Kid A and Hail To The Thief have something to say about that.

YES. This is exactly what I've been saying for weeks. I am NOT going to pay any amount of money for a Britney Spears single (no matter how much my gf wants to hear it right then) and I'm certainly not going to buy any popular Hip Hop / Rap or anything like that. If I want that stuff, I'll "steal" it off StreamRipperX (which is not stealing-- it's the same as taping off the radio).

I want artists that don't get radio play-- and who I actually care about supporting.

I noticed Smashing Pumpkins aren't there... neither are Zwan
no White Stripes either.. boo

What I would really really really really like to see is Japanese music.
It's difficult here in Aus to get any, except via expensive importing - and would love a way to at least give a couple of tracks per album a listen before splashing out on cd importing.

hail to the thief hasn't been released yet, what you heard was a collection of demos that were leaked, some from early in production, some from later. radiohead was not satisfied with these tracks and was disappointed that the demos were leaked and wouldn't have cared if it was the real tracks. you can pretty much be assured that the actual album will be better.

I hope everyone is letting apple know what artists they want. I'm sure they will be adding many of them soon anyway but it doesn't hurt to let your voice be heard.

Sadly I don't think you can at the moment. Get in contact with Apple and try to get them to host it. 80 megs or so (even for hundreds of artists) wouldn't cost them much at all, and you won't be using any bandwidth unless people are buying it (and therefore paying apple).

I'd like to see some Black Crowes. I like the service: surf from home and get music reliably and easily. Like others have said: this is only the first few days of the service and they will definitely add more. No need to worry or get uppity.

Have fun... Tony.
