Not surprising. The business press has been reporting for some time that there were disagreements between her and the board. When you have a board of conservative, play-it-safe people, and someone keeps trying to take the company in unknown directions, this result is inevitable.

She promised after Compaq merger the combined company would be Big and Awesome, like an IBM. It hasn't happened.

Hmmm. No more HP iPod by Apple?
My guess is the HP iPod has done more for Apple than it has for HP. Wasn't there a link that said only 8% of all iPods sold during the holidays was an HP?

Carly is a very nice person.
However, she made some very unpopular decisions, such as outsourcing practically every job she could.
Having said that, I no longer care about whether or not a job is outsourced. I think it's great, actually. I love calling India. I just got off of the telephone where I was talking to a young man in Bangladore and his name was Rahul and he's really a cool guy. I'm glad that people are doing well via HP no matter where they are.
That said, the outsourcing issue was a huge problem with a lot of board members - or so I heard.
I see that HP's stock is also up 10% now that she's quit her job.

As far as I know, what did it was this:

After the press announced that the merger had failed, the Board would not let her do anything "big." She got fed up; the Board got fed up and the result was announced today.
Due to the economic environment we've been in for the past four years or so, I say it'll be another five years before you can really say whether the merger failed or not. But, I don't sit on the HP board, so my opinion counts zero

Then let me add that you are very pleasant on the eyes. And from your comments and post, quite a carring individual.
It's nice to put a face to the name, especially if the person is hot.
edit: don't worry, I wont become a stocker. As if I could.

You should become a "stocker" if you work for Wal-Mart.

They never forgave here for making a deal with Apple. Now that she's gone, watch them run back to Microsoft and beg forgiveness.

That had some effect on the decision, although not a direct one, I suspect. She was going in many directions at once, and the board was afraid of her losing focus on the printer business, which is their big money maker.

She was unpopular at HP because she basically did everything she could to make life uncomfortable for employees. Outsourcing, cutting jobs, cutting benefits, insane increases to work load, getting rid of the innovative divisions. Good riddance.

Huh? I think you're confused. She's laying on a couch, her head on the left (and hanging off of the couch) and legs on the right. The green part is the girl's shirt covering her breasts. The pink is her undies. Her left knee is bent while her right is straight (you can sort of see this on the image in my sig - you can definitely see it on the full image).
The actual tummy on the site (not the full one):
You can better see the hips and pierced tummy.

Depends. And while on paper she resigned, make no mistake about it, she was fired (or asked to leave, same difference).

The corporate option there. For us normal people we just get 'laid off'. All of the terms mean 'fired'. They have to be careful how they do it due to people going postal now, thats all. LOL

Her tenure at Lucent was just as unastonishing.
She talks a good game, but when it comes down to results, she just can't drive them ong term.
She may be known as a hack who specializes in mergers, acquisitions, and spin-offs. Perhaps her fortay has never been "to grow marketshare and drive short and long-tem profits".
I wonder what the insider scoop is on her. I thought she blew it at Lucent, but then she got a grander job w/ HP? It didn't make sense to me at the time.

There's a big difference between Fired and Laid Off. Fired means you did something wrong, Laid Off means you don't live in Asia.

That merger has turned out to be a case study in how NOT to merge two large companies.
Basically HP has gained nothing from it, but they gave away 40% of their own company to do it. (Including the successful printing business)

According to some posts at Slashdot, employees report there was, quite literally, dancing in the halls of HP today.
It was also noted a few hours after the announcement Carly's web page had already been removed completely from the corporate bio section and the page was 404.
