I'm taking a departure from my prog/metal and want to find out some great synth rock. I just rediscovered the Ozric Tentacles and absolutely love it! Great musicians, great recordings. So I'm looking for more. Not into vocals but I cam probably deal with it. I also got a CD from Liv Kristine (former theater of tragedy singer) and it's quite cool, too (but a tinge boring).

Recommendations?

I'm not at home now, but I will check these out tonight.

I'm not sure about the category "synthpop" although some are described as "dark" , but that whole flaming fish link looks like it has serious potential.

This doesn't work for me at all. I wouldn't really call it rock. Too "dance" sounding. the singing reminds me of 80s new wave. But thanks for the suggestion.

do any of these bands actually have a drummer? Everything I've listened to so far is a drum machine/sequencer. that's where the "rock" comes into play.

Prince's Purple Rain reigns supreme in this genre. Despite his pansy a$$ image, it is one rockin' album.

The obvious that is frequently brought up is the very progressive album "Discipline" by King Crimson.

Yes' "90125" has some cool stuff with a synth feel to it. I happen to love "Leave it" even if it might not be what you're looking for.
Do you want forgiveness or respect?

This is the coolest new synth rock band I've heard in a long time, and their videos are amazing. Order their CD if you like it... you won't be disappointed!

I love the U.S., but we need some time apart.

wolfen - believe it or not I have (and actually like) Purple Rain. Maybe I'll check out some of his more recent stuff. And that reminds me (I don't know why) that I should check out Nine Inch Nails. I'm also a big Crimson and Yes fan. Those are still great suggestions though. Have you heard the Ozric Tentacles?

I checked out Lodger. Not bad, but a tad boring for me. The lyrics seemed a bit lacking, too.
