Any idea why the 17" 1.33 isn't listed? Should've shown up right after the 15" list item, but no.

- PowerBook G4 (15-inch 1.33GHz) with a SuperDrive

As you might guess I have a 17" 1.33 w/ SuperDrive

Because the 17" 1.33GHz PowerBook G4 came with a drive that doesn't have the ability to write DVD+R/RW.

Um, I've been able to burn to DVD +R from Disk Utility and Toast since I got my 15" superdrive PowerBook last April.

The Matshita UJ-825 supports DVD +R/RW @ 2x (actually 2.4x according to Matshita's data sheet but Apple's framework only burns @ whole numbers). The drive even writes DVD-RAM @ 2x, but I don't think Apple's framework supports this media (never tried).

You can actually see all the supported media types by mounting a blank DVD selecting the volume in disk utility. They're listed at the bottom of the Window.

I don't use iLife '04 apps, so can't say whether they recognize DVD +R/RWs.

And you'll be able to burn to external drives as well by saving DVDs as disk images and using other burning tools.

You can enable this feature in the iLife '04 apps by placing two files in your home folder. As I don't use the apps, I'm not sure where they can be downloaded but Google will know.

Can't use my Tibook either. However, it might be possible given the hacks to the superdrives that cynikal came up with. We'll wait and see.

What do you mean? Of course your superdrive will continue to work just like it always has.
