"Macy's department store has altered a window display marking Boston's gay pride week after a group that opposes gay marriage complained it was offensive."

What does two mannequins in a window have to do with gay marriage?

These people are insane. They do not have to have a cogent reason.

Some people are going to bitch about anything, and it's their right to do so. However, the issue is Macy's, and their pathetic lack of backbone.

Particularly when the complaint is baseless.

"Baseless" or not, the company should be standing up for what it believes is right. Macy's, obviously, values the opinions of the anti-gay marriage crowd over their gay customers.

The answer: If you're gay, don't shop there. Problem solved, and they'll get the message.

The irony is if it wasn't for gay men there wouldn't t be a Macy's to begin with.

I don't know if NOT shopping there solves anything. Obviously this hate group thinks they have won and it has hurt many gay people.

The funny thing is 30 years ago the issue would have been that the mannequins were an interracial. How long before gay people have to start riding at the back of the bus?

It is totally ridiculous. I did not know that the gays had a flag. It just shows that conservative hate people that are different from them. What a bunch of loosers.

If only they knew how many innocuous gay people they may actually see walking around on the street on any given day. They'd be horrified!

You didn't know about the flag?? You seem to have LARGE GAPS in your knowledge.

You also seem to believe stereotypes are 'real.' You are a walking example of how pathetic liberals are, and you aren't even a stereotype, but the real thing.

A couple valid questions: why do the gay mannequins have enlarged breasts? and why is one wearing a skirt? Is Macy's poking fun at gays?

Oh my dog these people are ignorant and stupid.

If you "almost puke" by seeing two male manaquins standing there, you really need to get your gag reflex checked at a doctor's office.

I say push these people to insanity. Reposition the manaquins so that one is giving head to the other. Maybe these Jesus freaks heads will explode and the rest of us can have some freedom.

Of course, they'd be just as offended if it was a man and a woman but the woman was not two steps behind the man.

To me the display is appropriate and tasteful. It's promoting an event and follows the theme of the event.

Isn't downtown Boston a fairly conservative working class part of town? I wonder if they would pull the mannequins from, say, the LA Beverly Center Macy's (or anywhere else more, umm, gay).

When was the last time gay people complained about two "straight" manaquins in a window? Maybe someone should.

If I saw two horridly overweight real life people stand next to one another I wouldn't even "puke".

If this guy felt that way it has nothing to do with his gag reflex but seeing a shrink instead.

Shrinks can't help guys like that. Nothing can except maybe coming out of the closet. Nah, he'd still be a self-loathing gay. LOL

[That is not a dig at any member of the board]

PS, I'm overweight, so is my wife. I promise we aren't disgusting when we stand next to each other...

Apparently they aren't very Lesbian friendly... guy manaquins, "latino night" (why no latinas!?)

Just kidding.

In fact the homophobes quoted earlier in the thread would probably have not complained if the manaquins were hot lesbians.

And the Christianophobes would have complained if someone put a manger in there during Christmas

What's your point?

I really don't have an issue with gay marriage other than suggesting that all "marriages" should be simply civil unions. Marriage occurs in a church and fails half the time anyway. I'm not concerned with how gays redefine marriage as it seems straights have redefined it to mean a life-long promise you make at least a couple times in your life. That said; those crying for freedom under the guise of "tolerance" have not shown much of it with verbiage such as "Jesus freaks" and the like. There are a great many "Jesus freaks" not reporting various public displays as offensive.

Agreed

Also, complaining about the lack of Christmas imagry (e.g., Target last season) is equally insipid. I didn't notice many atheists complaining about having Christmas imagry in stores; but I did hear the Usual Suspects bitching about Target. They're probably the same folks upset about this display.

I've never known of a straight person being beaten up because they are straight.

But the name Matthew Shepard means something, right? Right down there in the state just south from me.

On top of that, I've known gay people who were beat up for being gay. One of them was getting the crap kicked out of him outside a bar, bleeding all over, etc. The only thing that broke it up was his friend (a girl) said something about him being HIV+ and the hicks flipped out and ran away.

I hope they had a good long time to think about whether any of his blood came into contact with them and I hope they were scared sh*tless by it.

But my post has nothing to do with the window display, so please ignore it.

Don't you remember conservative Christians lobbying congress in the 80's to ban this offensive sacrilege?
