Hey,
for a few days now, there is a weird file in my trash, like:
␀␀␀ö
␀␀.ö
␀

I can't delete it, if I do, it's still there.

A virus? Anything important? Don't know what to do!

Not important, not a virus. I think it's some type of recovered/temp file, I had it once. Does it disappear once you click on it?

No. When I click on it, it remains, the info says: Alias, 0 KB.

Have you got Boot Camp or Parallels or some other OS installed?
A few other posts like this turned out to be trash from those areas.

SteveJobs, you of all people should know there are essentially zero viruses on Mac OS X.

I would link to a site which has the answer, but:

1. It is currently moving servers
2. Last time I linked to it I got an infraction.

It relates to bootcamp or parallels, can't remember which. This filename is something like null null null .null

Open the trash, click once on the offending file, then in the finder under file, click on get info, look for a box with locked next to it, if it's checked (Locked), un-check it and you should be able to get rid of it.

Found the problem: the files were in the Windows BootCamp (FAT32) partition. Once I unmounted it, they disappeared.
Formated it and it was fixed.

Ok, I had this same stupid null-null-null etc. file in my trash and no matter what I did it didn't disappear. I restarted in native Windows and did the chkdsk and everything else that I've seen suggested and nothing worked. As sometimes happens with those of us who aren't programmers but do have a decent clue with computers, I was struck by lightning and here's what I did.

I have a boot camp partition AND VMWare. I started up my boot camp partition in VMWare and in the Start->Run menu typed "chkdsk /f". It prompted me to restart and schedule a volume fix on next startup, I answered yes. Then I restarted. It ran the check and voila, the rotten .Trashes/501 folder was changed to a file. I then proceeded to delete the file with no hitches and it hasn't returned (yet at least).

I registered just to post this because I couldn't find ANY other solutions that worked! Hope it works for all future readers too.
