Well, to follow up on my Classic G3, I got a 6500 and realized how perfect the motherboard would fit in the bottom of the Mac SE case I had lying around, so I grabbed the dremel and went to work. It's a 6500/300, with a 12GB HD and 128MB of RAM. I can pull the cables through the top and plug in the CD-ROM if I need to, but I have it running Yellow Dog Linux 3.0.1 right now. It would make a great file, web, mail, DNS, etc server.

That's pretty neat, but you need an LCD for the front.

For some reason, I want to buy a classic TRS-80 and install a mini into it... with a nice LCD screen and keyboard...

I'd love to do that. 8-9" LCD's can be had on eBay for $110-$150, and they often have VGA in, and a TV tuner, so the unit could be a tv when not in use as a computer. Combining that with the cube would make an excellent file/web server (my current web server is a cube 450/1.25RAM, it's works wonderfully hooked to my KVM).

Don't know why but I just went to the 6400 Zone website ( Link ), it was one of my old haunts while I had a 6400 Performa. Any idea if a Mac mini motherboard (or a whole Mac mini!) would go into the back of the 6x00 case? The slide out motherboard was really great on those things, shame the rest of the case was such a bitch to open up, lol.

It'll be much easier if you just comply.

Good luck with the 6400 case. It was nearly impossible to service that beast.

the 6400 case, not so! You just have to be brutal and uncaring if anything break when you follow the TIL to snap it open

Yeah I managed to get it apart once (several fingernails later, lol). Can't remember why now, but I ended up gutting it and clearing the dust out of it. Just remembered another good thing about it, when you did manage to get the casing off it, the hard drive was on a sled with a tab on it to pull the drive out, nifty! Doesn't come close to a G4 case though .

It'll be much easier if you just comply.

You guys are overreacting. I had a 6400 and opened it up a few times.
