We've all heard that trying to import the Password Control panel from Lombard to Pismo locks up, and may destroy, your hard drive.

What software can be used to accomplish a similar security function on Pismo? I've seen a couple of sharewares, including LockOut 1.8 and SuperLock 4.5 Pro on Version Tracker, but their website doesn't specifically say anything about safe use on Pismo.

Any ideas or experience? I just feel a little uncomfortable leaving my Pismo open for anyone to startup or awaken without a password!
MacBook Pro 2.33GHz, 15.4" Glossy, 160GB - and loving it!

Apple's recommended solution is to use the Multile Users feature, which actually does not force you to create more than 1 user (the owner). Try that.

You can use any password security software other than Apple's "Password Security" control panel.

The only reason one can't use Apple's is because it makes calls for hardware that is no longer found in Pismo (which is why it doesn't work on desktops, either).

All other password utilities (LockOut, SuperLock, etc.) use the Mac OS, which allows them to work on any system.

Multiple Users is a bad alternative for a simple password utility, imo. I'd disable all MU extensions...

DiskLock reigns supreme! All shall bow before DiskLock.
