in the timeframe of may 19th through june 18th, i sent or recieved 937 text messages. sometimes, i amaze myself. this is approximately 30 per day. it should be noted that the last 3 days of the time period mentioned i was camping in canada and sent or recieved no text messages, thus improving my text-per-day rate. anyone else using a ridiculous amount of text messages?

Don't text message regularly. I think it makes more sense to actually make the call, most of the time. If I cannot talk and the message needs to be delivered ASAP (and one of us cannot get to email), I'll bite, but that happens only a few times a month.

I just got a new phone that let's you actually talk to the other person rather then just send them a text only message. It's quite the breakthrough. I think this is going to revolutionize the way we communicate.

gald durn, that's ridiculous. what are you, some kind of high school teen beat upskirt whoo-er?
I'm probably around 150/month total.
I'm an idiot on a whole different level with my one time cellular bill of over $5000 US dollars (one month, voice and apparently A LOT of data)

We can't buy anything that leaves the ground. So we buy model rocket engines seperately. Kinda hard to find during the 4th, but I have a ton laying around from 50 packs I bought for my rockets anyway.

I’ve sent three or four texts my entire life. And I’m not an old fart – 18, and got my cellphone at 14. Then again I use my cell so little that I’m on one of those pay-as-you-go plans.

I've had my new phone for about two weeks. Since then I've sent about 5 and received about 20, around half of which were my GF telling to get on AIM.

^ ya, seriously. $5000 is INSANE. 937 text messages certainly puts me in some level of "teen beat girl" camp, but a 5k phone bill is out of control.

If I remember right, he didn't realize his plan didn't include data, and he got it figured out after that bill.
SWG: Due to unique situations, phone calling doesn't work well as far as long distance charges and minutes used (I share with my sis) but voice chatting on iChat is free

I knew a girl who racked up about $8,000 in cell phone charges over a 3 month period. This was in the late 90's when fees were still pretty outragious. The most retarded thing was that it took her months to do it. You would think the first $2,500 phone bill might make you shut the F up, but no.

I'm around 1000 text messages a month.
I just find it a lot quicker to type out a message and send it off than making a phonecall. obviously full conversations are done by speaking, but often when i'm sitting at work I can't sit on the phone so i'll type out a good few text messages.
I also have a lot of friends overseas and it's cheaper to text them than it is to phone them.

I do a good 1000+ a month, however I also talk 3000 or so minutes each cycle. Texts are great tho, it gives me something to do during meetings...
And, I am completely serious when I say that I think texting has done more for the random hookup/booty call thing then beer ever did. Its one thing for a girl to call a guy and say "Hey, wanna fsck?", much less likely to happen...but sending a text at 3am that says "hey, whatcha doin?" is a different thing entirely.
This what i've concluded from extensive surveying of friends and such...interesting from an anthropological standpoint.

Has anyone ever gotten SMS spam? Once in a while I get a text from some random yahoo email address, and sometimes it's in Spanish.

Maybe three or four on a big month. Sometimes it's worth my time to text when I know something like accuracy is important with numbers and such, but most of the time I prefer to actually speak with the person I'm communicating with.

Yep, and send it. Used to anyway. It was a hugely untapped market because it's easy to send if you have a gateway. basically you find out which areacode/prefix combinations are assigned to which carrier, then send a message to that particular carriers address, i.e. [email protected], for every number between xxx-xxx-0001 and xxx-xxx-9999
from a senders standpoint it was a lot better because, assuming the subscriber had text messaging, it was a guaranteed delivery since you usually have to read before deleting, unlike email. No spam filters either and at that point it time completely not governed by anti spam type laws.

I average about 300 per month. Sometimes you just want to let someone know one thing and it's not worth making a call. Often times I'm find myself in a boring meeting/conference call where others are going at it with their blackberries, so I txt people to keep myself entertained.

I forgot to mention the few SMS spams I've received. They were all in Spanish; I don't know why. That stopped shortly after it started, and it's been a long time.
