Thinksecret reports that new iPods are coming on September 12th.

- The updated nano's are said to sport increased capacities and be available in multiple colors with a metal finish.

- The updated 5G iPods are said to sport increased capacities at its current price point.

Of note is the fact that we wont be seeing the long rumoured touch screen video iPod. Thinksecret speculates that we may see this one prior to the Christmas shopping season.

A lot of people loved the mini's anodized aluminum finish so I have no doubt in my mind that the updated nano will be a huge success for Apple. I hope to see new colours though, to help distinguish the lineup a bit from the mini. Darker hues would be a very welcome change to keep this lineup fresh. I can't wait for the 12th to come!

I'm set to buy a new nano. Is the consensus 8 GB for the max capacity? Does anybody here believe we'll see more? I'd like ~ 10 GB.

Apple would be shamed if they didn't have an 8GB model to compete with the new SanDisk Sansa e280 8GB mp3 player.

SanDisk unveils 8GB, expandable Sansa e280 - Engadget

The odds-on favorite appears to be an 8 GB nano coming out o Apple's Skunkworks labs soon...

My checking account is ready to go for the new iPhone, hopefully coming out the 12th as well. Then, the 13th rolls around and I buy one of the new Onyx Nintendo DSLite's...to match my BlackBook, of course.

I'm set, too. It'd be a shame if the nano wouldn't get at least 8 GB. Considering the deal Apple made with Samsung, they shouldn't have a problem getting higher capacity chips. But I guess 8 GB is what we eill see at the top…

I just (2 days ago) sold my 30 GB video iPod, so I'm more than anticipating the new iPods…

Well fine, 8 GB will have to do. I'm not quite sure if I should get the lanyard headphone thing or the remote control. Any opinions on which combo is better?

I'll choose the lanyard option. To skip a track is convenient enough for me through the click wheel, and I usually need visual control to choose a new album or playlist. That is, of course, if the new nano still has a physical click wheel…

I have a Matias armor case that has a lanyard. The hard shell gives me more comfort than a naked iPod nano....

Either the iMac is photoshopped (poorly), or the edges overlap the black background. It does seem a bit fishy, but the iPod is really cool if it's real (or fake for that matter).

Just sold my 1 year old 60 Gig video iPod on E-Bay in anticipation of something new tomorrow. I got $300+ for it which is probably more that I'll get once the new ones are out.

Worse case is no new larger iPods and I make do with my nano until the larger line is refreshed. not planning to sell my nano as I only use it for running and the 1 Gig works perfectly with my Nike+ kit.

Really hoping for the rumored hardware to connect to your TV to stream video. I just hope that if they do come out with it, the same hardware lets me wirelessly use my HD Screen as a monitor with my MacBook.

1 More day to go...

I am not a rumor monger, but do enjoy reading them, nonetheless.
I found this url on macrumors, I believe. Look at the "It's Showtime" image. The borders around the image look like an outline of the much speculated full screen iPod to me.

These look just like the older iPod mini's. I was a big fan of the anodized aluminum finish, but I was kind of hoping for a more inspired design. I guess I'll have to see it in person before I make my final decision.

Overall, it was a good show for the iPod.

Does anyone know if the new nanos have seamless playback? It doesn't mention it on the Apple site, although it does for the new full-sized iPods. Someone mentioned that all iPods now have the same software, so shouldn't the playback be the same??

Thanks

Speaking of software, I'm curious to see what kind of updates 5g iPods will get with the new iPod software surely due to be posted soon. I don't expect to see all of the 6g features added to the 5g, so anything will be a welcome surprise.

The Nano and the iPod have "gapless" playback, according to Apple. I think the return to colors will spark some new sales, but I'm not sure if the iPod is still that gotta have thing anymore. Apple's going to need to innovate to make the mp3 player not just another commodity item for them. The iPod spark is starting to dimish a bit. I'm not sure this update really helps.

I'm so torn on what to do. I love my current shuffle and I like the looks of the new one. Sometimes I wish it had a screen, so that makes me think about getting a nano. It's just that I really like how small the shuffle is. It's almost weightless and I don't even notice it.

Then I also think about how it would be cool to have an iPod that did video. I was REALLY hoping that the rumored iPod where the entire front was a screen would come out. If that had come out today, I would have for sure bought it. The only thing is, who knows if that will ever come out. I've really gotten into podcasts and video podcasts. It would be cool to be able to watch them on an iPod.

10 minutes ago, I had the 80 GB iPod in black and a shuffle in a cart. I was hovering over the purchase button, but I'm just too uncertain. I think for sure I'll get the shuffle. I may just have to force myself to wait another year to see if the true video iPod comes out.

Go for the 80 Gig iPod Video too...

You're obviously someone who is tuned into the Apple grapevine so you'll have a sense of when the next revision is going to be. If you buy today for $349 you'll be able to sell on E-Bay just before the next revision for $300 or so meaning you'll essentially be renting the iPod for about $5-6 a month over the next year.

I solf my 60Gig Video on E-Bay for $305 USD on Sunday and just ordered the new 80 Gig for $367 CAD (about $332 USD) My "cost" to use the 60 Gig for a year was under $30.00 USD...

As much as I like the new iPod nano, my 4 GB nano fits me just fine. I've got 48 hours worth of music with a smart playlist that constantly refreshes and updates itself.

Like Brien, my 60GB 5G still works....

So for now, my portable music needs and portable video needs have been met. I'm actually looking forward to the iTV that was previewed. This promises the connection to bridge the gap to playing my mpeg-4 movies on my TV.

It wasn't a spectacular update for the new iPods, but it was a pretty good one. I know that I will be picking up a new iPod as soon as I've had a chance to see them. I still haven't decided if I'd rather have a 30GB iPod or a 8GB nano. They are each priced at $299 CDN. Right now I'm thinking I'll likely end up picking up the 8GB nano. Apple hasn't made this decision easy for me..

So who here is planning to grab themselves a new iPod?
