Ok, I'd seen these cursed things before - but floating ads that just wander on to the screen?

Gimme a break!

Can you please tell your ad company to get stuffed?

Don't try to outweird me, I get stranger things than you free with my breakfast cereal.

*sigh*

It seems like MacNN would rather get the ad dollars and piss members off than do something about it.

I had these turned off last week, when I first saw them. I just emailed our network contacts to verify that these are off.

Thanks for the heads up.

Nope. Just had one float by on the Forums main page.

EDIT: maybe the two floaty ad threads should be merged.

I can't figure out who is serving these. Next time you see one can you copy the click-thru link on the top banner?

For the record, I've never seen one of these for as long as I've visited MacNN. I don't have any ad-blocking software installed besides Safari's "Block Pop-Up Windows" option.

I've confirmed with 3 of our largest networks and am still working to track this down. I too have never seen it the floaters, so anyone who can copy the click-thru link (control+click on the banner itself and 'copy target link' etc.), please send it along.

Just saw one this morning, around 10 MDT - "please help us and take our survey..." floated across my screen.

Glad y'all are working on this. Could you also stop feeding Electronista hits with links from the news... just seems a bit Jacksonian.

Thanks

I still can't figure out why this is happening. None of our networks claim to be allowing the ads. Still looking though.

It happened to me once, and that was the ad at the top then too.

Hmm...can you copy the click through link (using control+click and 'copy target link'), so I can identify and ban the network?

Click-through links don't work because it's a javascript click-through.

The resulting location upon click-through, however, is (again, because turtle provided it),

The ad that causes it is the Microsoft AdCenter one, though.

I have given up hope that we get rid of the annoying ads. They are here to stay.

My company firewall must block them, but while I surf MacNN infrequently at home, I've never seen on there either.
