Just about had a heart attack getting the keyboard off...

Got this book yesterday as a companion for my digital camera.
5300c/603@100MHz/16MB/750MB/OS 8.1
I think it has a 1MB VRAM, 'cause I get thousands of colors and 640x480.

Need to get into the guts to replace the HD and see what I can do to the MoBo to juice this thing up a bit.
Will be looking for RAM soon too.

The 2 pieces of trim on the sides just snap loose, wiggle & tilt screen to allow them to come off.

Then carefully lift the remainder of the trackpad assembly up, careful not to break cable. You can then access ram module & harddrive.

Be carefull the keyboard cable & trackpad cable come loose easily.

Thanks Steve-

That'll get me going, hope to have a pair of 16MB RAM stix in a few days to convert to a single 32.
With VM tuned off, running OS 8.1, this little beast is pretty snappy.
Will take out the HD and put the 6GB drive from my Digital Wallet in it.

Next will be AirPort...
If I get an AirPort card for my G4 Mystic, what PCMCIA cards will work in the 5300?
Or do I have to get a base station? What about range on the 3rd party cards?

Sorry. Apple killed the link to the take apart manual I was trying to give you.

Appreciate the thought, uberden.

If anybody else wants or needs it, I got the PDF (2MB) tech manual with exploded dias and step by step take-aparts. Also has some basic troubleshooting, accurate specs for each 190 and 5300 model and a few other tidbits.

e-mail me and I'll send it out. I won't post it for obvious reasons.

Zack
