Podcasting + Audiobooks + my playlists = no need for FM.
Ok, maybe now and then to catch a game but that's it.

I don't even need it for that thanks to NFL Sunday Ticket.

Or just spend $20 on a pocket radio - no need for it to plug into an iPod, available just as small...

I agree with all of you. No FM for me. But it will be interesting to see how well this sells. A lot of people say they want the iPod to have a built-in FM radio (or at least they use the lack of FM to bash the iPod). Now it's time for those people to put their money where their mouths are.

Yeah, but built in isn't the same as a deal you plug into the iPod.
For this price, even if I wanted radio, I'd pass. You can get little radios like that for next to nothing, we even had one or two laying around here that came free with some shampoo.

I'm wondering what the radio reception is like.
I think it's a small but vocal minority that wants FM radio. I have several friends who have the FM radio feature on their mp3 player of choice but rarely use it.
The reason I got an iPod is to get away from the bad radio station programming that tries to cram the same 10 songs every hour down my throat.
The answer I give to my friends when they ask "how come the iPod doesn't come with radio and still costs more than my mp3 player?" is "Why do I need a radio when I have 1,000 songs in my pocket?"
I also have a pocket radio that has both AM and FM radio for those days when I need it which is usually during typhoon/hurricane season out here on Guam.
Ever since I got an FM transmitter to connect my iPod to my car stereo, I've never had to use my radio unless I'm listening to the local 6:00 news broadcast.
