Boeing 707 Luxair The very plane in the photo in fact!, back in 1975. My first jet passenger flight. Had to land all over the place since they didn't have much range.

Airbus A300 in the 80's, Luxair. Very comfortable for those days.

Bac 111 a few times in the 80's, Tarom and Danair. Crowded cabin but a rugged little plane.

Boeing 727, also in the 80's, Danair. Very crappy flight and landed in the middle of a storm.

Tupolev Tu-154 also in the 80's, Tarom (This airlines held the world record for fatal accidents at the time, btw!). Built like a tank with rocket engines and it flies like one too.

Boeing 747. Numerous versions, from the ultra long range SP ( South African Airways) to the mixed cargo/passenger version (Alitalia) the modern 400 (Lufthansa). The 400 felt very heavy and cumbersome on the ground and in the air.

DC-9, Alitalia, during the Gulf War, from Rome to Zurich, just a week after another DC-9 crashed into a mountain on approach into Zurich! Very paranoid flight.

Airbus A319, Swissair, Lufthansa. Very nice cabins and very nice flying feeling.

Airbus A330, Emirates. Very comfortable fligt and seats and the Emirates cabin crew are by far the friendliest I have ever flown with.

Boeing 777, Emirates, from Dubai to Melbourne via Singapore. Dubai airport is like the crossroads of the planet, with every nation on this world milling about. Lovely plane and the first I flew in that had seat back videos.

Bombardier CRJ-100, Lufthansa. Cramped cabin and rough seating, but a real feeling of flying.

Boeing 767. Cramped cabin and shitty seats (Milan-Toronto, Air Canada).

Avro Rj-100, Azurra. Not as cramped as the CRJ-100 but loud as hell because of the engines being right next to the cabin.
How do you remember all this???

I personally like the B-2 but that is probably because I get to see them fly over every day on approach to the air force base. It's really something to be walking outside and just look up and see a B-2 barely above the buildings. Here is a linky to more pics: http://www.whiteman.af.mil/gallery/index.shtml

That's interesting. I had no idea that the AVRO name lived on in a Canadian daughter company. The 'original' AVRO made one of my favourite all-time planes:

Eventually they were absorbed into British Aerospace which is co-responsible for another one of my all-time fave planes:

I wanna see someone pull off a barrel roll in one of those. Hey, the test pilot did it with a 747-- why not?

Me too! I only have seen a 747 flying a curve with the wings in a 90 angle to the ground and a Transall doing the barrel roll (all at an airshow in Paris a loooong time ago)!
If you don't know what a Transall is, then check the first picture here (very nice pictures!!!)

I may be mistaken-- it could have been a 707. Still, a huge plane.

My uncle flew B-52's with the 416th out of Griffis. I used to spend a lot of time there when i was a kid because I had a serious thing about military planes (I had my heart set on being a piliot until I got glasses at 14). He once showed me a video tape of a B-52 flying inverted. It was without a doubt about the damnedset thing I've ever seen. that's a lot of plane to put on it's back.

During Vietnam, he flew a T-28D Trojan (shown below) as well as AC-130s with an Air Commando Squadron in Laos, training the Royal Laotian Air Force pilots as well as providing CAS over the border. He said those T-28's were a great bird for close air support.

Since he always talked so highly of them, I got a guy to give me a spin in one at an air show. When they kick over that big ol' engine, you know it!

Was he with the 15th Air Commandos? My wife's grandad was in the 15th Air Commandos.
He flew C130's in Laos and Vietnam. He was shot down twice.
I have a photo of his air wing as well as he and his crew.

Yeah, it was the Dash 80, the 707 prototype flown by Tex Johnson. If anyone can find the video, please put a link up to it here. I've seen it before and it's incredible.

I'm not sure which squadron he was with back then. Ill have to email him and find out. I'll also see if I can get that tape of the inverted B-52 and convert myself a copy of it. If I can get it, I'll post it up, even if this thread is long gone. Absolutely incredible.

Thanks badidea,
my old jet engines prof has been looking for that for a while.
B52 video would be good too, he used to be a navigator on the BUFF's.

I'm surprised we don't have any kitbuilders here. Many moons ago, I helped my neighbor build a Raven, basically a Kitfox from plans. He modded it with many different Kitfox versions, a subaru engine, and lots of his own custom stuff.

Any of you pilots ever had hypoxic fun?

No hypoxia as of yet. I don't take the Cessna above 10K feet.
Kitfox is a great kitplane. I like the Glasair a lot too.
