This may sound wirdbut i dont think its a joke:

A chinese news paper website had reported that Apple
soon (end oct, nov) will sell 19" LCD iMacs ....

This message were based on the fact that apple had ordered a large amounth of 19" lcd displays at the same company that had created the 15' for the 15" LCD iMac ...

I want one ...

i hope the feet is heavy anough to handle 19"

:)

I don't think this will come true this year. First of all, even 17" LCDs are very expensive, the 17" iMac is as well.
As a result, a 19" iMac would be way too expensive for home users, it would be cheaper to get a DP867 and a 17" LCD.
Also, Apple would have to discontinue the 15" iMac, what do they need three different iMac models for anyway? They need a Low-End and a Hi-End iMac, and nothing in between.

Anyway, just my $0.02

They have effectively already discontinued the 15'' iMac.

As to the price concerns, it'd only really be viable in anticipation of a change in pricing for LCDs or an increase in PowerMac prices (perhaps due to a greater technological differentiation between the iMac and "low-end" Power Mac), but I think one or both is reasonable. The more LCDs they order at once, the more they save on them and the more they can bring that savings to us. A 19'' iMac is quite likely. (Not that I'd want one...I don't like these weirdo widescreen resolutions it's likely to have; I have a TV for watching DVDs when I want to do that.)

Then again, just because it's reported in a newspapaer that made the 15" Imacs doesn't necessarily mean that a forthcoming 19" display will be for the Imac, much as I'd like it. Maybe they're going to refresh the studio display line, which does seem quite likely.

Either way, a 19" display, at a hopefully affordable price, sounds a very nice device!

Fingers crossed,

I, too, think we're going to see a Studio Display refresh in the near future. Those 19-inch panels are definitely not for Apple's iMac line.
