I'm trying to up the mtu's of a connection and I get an error when using the command:
ifconfig eth0 mtu 9000
Is there anything I'm doing wrong? Is there a application that will let me tweak this?

Why not just use the Ethernet tab of the Network preferences pane to adjust your MTU?

I assume your switch or network environment supports jumbo frames? If not, it will immediately negotiate back I believe.

It's a firewire connection that's only point to point (technically)
I found something that will do it:
