Mac OS 7.1 reasons to get a Mac:
* Simple & Fun to use
* Powerful, customizable
* Multitasking (DOS couldn't multitask, Windows couldn't do everything)
* Easier than DOS/Win3.1 by a ton
* Networking
* Desktop Publishing
* Great apps
* Graphics
Mac OS 7.5.5 reasons to get a Mac:
* Metadata
* Consistently GUI (Windows 95 was still DOS-based for games etc.)
* Adobe Illustrator, QuarkXPress and more ran better
* Multimedia was easier
* You already had one
* A natural migration from OS 7.1 (can you tell there are no good reasons to use 7.5.5?)
Mac OS 8.1 reasons to get a Mac:
* Metadata
* Weren't Tied to IE
* Weren't Tied to MS
* Much better at new hardware
* Much better at multimedia
* iMac was cool
* Finder worked great
* Smooth interface
Mac OS 9 reasons to get a Mac:
* Metadata
* Wasn't tied to MS
* Smooth interface
* Finder worked great
* Internet was easy and capable
* Good multi-user @ home OS/good for kids
* TiBook was drop-dead gorgeous and sleek
* iMac G4 was drop-dead gorgeous and had immense WOW! Factor
* iMovie and iTunes were awesome
* Pop-up windows and spring-loaded folders, zoom to fit
* Extensive customizability
* And incredible flexibility
Mac OS X 10.1 reasons to get a Mac
There weren't many.
*Unix Based
*Ran Mac applications
*Good Multi-user OS w/ irontight security
* No Viruses
* No Spyware/Adware/Trialware bundled or installed randomly (this was around the time Spyware, and stupid PC manufactures with trials got to be a problem)
* iMovie, iTunes, iDVD very cool.
* TiBook/iMac G4 was neat.
Mac OS X 10.5 reasons to get a Mac:
* Many shareware applications/Thriving Shareware market
* AppleScript
* No Viruses
* No Spyware/Adware
* No OEM junk
* Actual OS X discs come with every Mac (really infuriating problem with PCs)
* OS X doesn't have activation
* iPhoto manages photos excellently
* iTunes & iPod & iPhone go best on Mac
* Excellent bundled calendar, calculator, web browser, chat program, etc.
* iPhoto edits photos superbly & iWeb hosts photo albums and blogs nicely
* iMovie, iDVD, GarageBand, and other iLife '08 tools are awesome.
* Final Cut Studio and Logic Studio are excellent pro apps.
* Keynote is the best-in-class presentations program.
* Open-source Friendly
* Search easy and painless (I still find it troubling under Vista, and many people can't even switch to Vista)
* Widgets, Actions, and other minor doodads make life easier and more fun.
* Virtual Desktops are elegant, clean, and a good arrangement feature
So there are lots more reasons (IMHO), but totally different ones.

Mac OS X 10.5 reasons to get a Mac:
* You can phone Apple and get them to send you a proper operating system.
|

Been inclined to wander... off the beaten track.
That's where there's thunder... and the wind shouts back.

Bought two Mac minis last week. Both had 10.5 pre-installed. Both kept falling over all the time (like, pull the power cord to fix it kind of falling over). Phoned Apple, asked 'em for 10.4 install disks. They came today. No further problems with Mac minis after an OS downgrade - not even the slightest whiff of a problem.
Thus, 10.5 = utter crap. 10.4 = proper operating system.
They should have waited another six months before releasing 10.5

10.5.2 = Rock solid.
I doubt a lot of you push your computers as much as I do. I've happily upgraded my computer as soon as 10.5 was available with very few hiccups.

My iBook ran 10.5 just fine...until it completely croaked. Oops. I was going to pick up a Mac Mini on eBay for cheap, but the seller ended the auction early, even though there were supposedly 44 units left.

Huh. I must say, I was a little way of Leopard at first, but I've had it since Christmas with only one problem.
Granted, that one problem was the only kernel panic I've ever had on Mac OS X, hahaha. But just restarted and it's been fine since.
Plus, the new option for list menus in the Dock is solid. Stack is great for some things, but not all things.
