So despite the typical 'NN asshattery, I'll talk a bit about SXSW.

Originally it was a music festival, then it morphed into music and movies, and now it's music, movies, and interactive.

SXSWeek 2009: March 13-22
Interactive: March 13-17
Film: March 13-21
Music: March 18-22

Anyone who's anyone goes to this. Granted, it's up to people to decide whether or not they deserve the title "A-lister", but the fact is that you can connect with people, listen to sessions on everything from CSS to Air to how to localize your web site.

These are the brightest people in the business. Everyone here has something to contribute, whether it's for the internet in general (apps), podcasting, video, branding, etc. Did I mention the parties and the free food and beer?

I didn't get to as many sessions as I wanted to, I spent way too much time talking to people - some I knew, some I met in RL for the first time.

What did I get out of it? Other than spending a few days with some of the best people EVER, I got a feeling that there are jobs out there in the tech industry, you just have to know where to find them, and you NEED to get your web app developer hat on. If anything, in this economy, it'll help since you can work from home if you're badass enough.

You started a thread called "Sxsw '09", and all you post is this:

Considering that SXSWi is for geeks, I didn't think I had to explain anything. I'll have to lower my standards for this place next time.

Oh spare us your mock disappointment. NN is a diverse cross-section of Mac users. Your OP was lazy. The replies were nonsense. Both sides got what they deserved.

Oh really?

http://forums.macnn.com/89/macnn-lou...15-16-23-42-a/

Is every "vague" thread supposed to come with 8x10 color glossy pictures with circles and arrows and a paragraph on the back of each one?

You either know what it is, or you don't. No need to be an asshat.

Yeah, I'm sure the audiences of LOST and SxSW are about the same size. Also the media coverage they get.

A bunch of people being silly isn't being asshattery unless you have an incredibly thin skin. Which, you do have, judging about your griping about this place over the past few years. But you keep coming back.

It's alright though, pointing out your crappy argument and your PMS-like irritability regarding a forum you keep returning to are fun ways to kill time.

I LOLed.

I won't go to geek conventions. Too many unbathed fat guys walking around staring at me because omg it's a geek girl (plus I have the added benefit of not being obese).

I went to a geek party/meetup once. There was a weird smell permeating every room of the house and garage where the party was hosted...

Well, that explains why most 'NNers wouldn't know about Sxsw '09.

True 'NNers are at least metrosexual, if not borderline ghey, right ?

SXSW is NOTHING like that. It was 50% men/women (or maybe 60/40), and it's mostly for business.

SXSW - most of the modern world should know what that is. I will now start a thread about WMC.

edit: or should at least be able to google it very quickly

At least we made it this far without a plea to examine white text.

Now we should've been so lucky as to have avoided the personal attacks. Let's do that.

I know several people who's there. And yes, my twitter feed is clogged with people who seem to do nothing but twitter all day about being at #sxws. Seriously, go to a festival and enjoy yourself - don't spend all day bragging about it on the internet. You look like a tool.

And again: this is a GENERAL YOU, not directed at starman. #"%$"$

The whole POINT of tweeting everything is to let people know what's going on. It's not bragging.

I just find it funny that erik believes twittering from sxsw is being a tool when Twitter itself STARTED at sxsw. Isn't the point of Twitter to let people know WHAT YOU'RE DOING?
