forgot about U2 one, that has to be my #2 song behind black

I am still unsure of what Eddie is singing about

Hey... oooh...
Sheets of empty canvas, untouched sheets of clay
Were laid spread out before me as her body once did.
All five horizons revolved around her soul
As the earth to the sun
Now the air I tasted and breathed has taken a turn

Ooh, and all I taught her was everything
Ooh, I know she gave me all that she wore
And now my bitter hands chafe beneath the clouds
Of what was everything.
Oh, the pictures have all been washed in black, tattooed everything...

I take a walk outside
I'm surrounded by some kids at play
I can feel their laughter, so why do I sear?
Oh, and twisted thoughts that spin round my head
I'm spinning, oh, I'm spinning
How quick the sun can drop away

And now my bitter hands cradle broken glass
Of what was everything?
All the pictures have all been washed in black, tattooed everything...

All the love gone bad turned my world to black
Tattooed all I see, all that I am, all I'll be... yeah...
Uh huh... uh huh... ooh...

I know someday you'll have a beautiful life,
I know you'll be a sun in somebody else's sky, but why
Why, why can't it be, why can't it be mine

Aah... uuh..

I remember driving down the street when I was 16 seriously jammin' to MC Hammer.

I questioned his version of "Have You Seen Her?" though.

There just isn't any way that ONE song can be THE BEST for 10 years.

I was 18 - 28 in the 90s and there are just too many memories associated with different songs to say that one was better than all the rest.

Scary Spice is the whore of the bunch - I've had 'em all.

I'd be hard pressed to narrow down my list to 10, but without a doubt U2s One would be in the Top 3.

Without thinking about it too hard right now, I will say that I absolutely love "Interstate Love Song" by Stone Temple Pilots. That's a great song.

And Plush.

How could the Foo Fighters not make the top 100? Especially considering some of the other dubious dreck on that list.

Not listened to that in ages - just put it on the iPod.

I really got into the Stone Temple Pilots, Alice in Chains, Temple of the Dog, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, etc in the early 90s.

Musicwise, I agree completely. The lists others have posted did spark something for me, but a lot of the songs I thought of were a bit before the 90s. Like everything I've really liked by U2, for instance.

However, my favorites, in no particular order (except for being reminded of them from the top 100 list) include:
Waterfalls-TLC
Black Hole Sun -Soundgarden
Mr. Jones -Counting Crows
Livin' la Vida Loca -Ricky Martin
Killing me Softly with His Song -(great cover) Fugees
Only Wanna Be with You -Hootie and the Blowfish
Buddy Holly -Weezer
Peaches -Presidents of the United States of America
Run Around -Blues Traveler
Building a Mystery -Sarah McLachlan
The Way -Fastball (a real one-hit wonder )
All Star -Smash Mouth
Passionate Kisses, Right Now, Shut Up and Kiss Me, When Halley Came to Jackson- all by Mary-Chapin Carpenter

Wasn't it though? It was one of those songs that when it came out everyone was like, "This amazing" or "This is different." But their next songs were neither and they fell back into obscurity.

Man, I could practically start another thread to discuss some of the other wonders of 90s, like White Town, or Primitive Radio gods.

And now that I've been thinking about it, I could probably add something like ten more songs. I just don't categorize songs in my head by decade, and that makes this sort of thread a problem to post in.

The best song of the 1990s is a twelve-way tie of every song on Cryptic Writings from Megadeth.

fixed (though the song is from 2005)

However, I'm surprised Bitter Sweet Symphony isn't on that list.

"How Bizarre" was from the '90s? Huh. I never heard it until a couple of years ago (thanks to "Jack FM"). Very interesting.

I keep getting reminded of songs and then when I look 'em up they're from '89 or '02 or something like that. For example, "Stand" by REM is from '88. I like "Shiny Happy People," but it's not one that jumps to my thoughts like Stand does.

Interesting indeed. I take it you didn't listen to a radio -- ever -- in the '90s?

"Losing My Religion" is surely the R.E.M. song of the '90s.

The 80's had some great stuff, goodtimes©.

ok, the 90's have finally hit me... weird mix though.

Sex And Candy - Marcy Playground
Sabotage - Beastie Boys
You Can't Touch This - MC Hammer
Creep - Radiohead
Teen Spirit - Nirvana
En Vogue "My Lovin' (You're Never Gonna Get It)"
Cypress Hill "Insane In The Brain"
R.E.M. "Losing My Religion"
Madonna "Vogue"
etc...

I have to go with Sabotage by the Beastie Boys. Their video sealed it for me.

Not a bad list, though Natalie Merchant sucks balls.
