In the old days before mail, I used Entourage. A handy feature I loved was being at home and checking my work email. But, I was able in Entourage to choose to delete or keep mail I read on or off the server. So mail I didn't need to read again when i got to work, I deleted at home after i read it and it was off the server, never to bother me again. Does anyone know what I'm talking about here? Does Mail do this???? I'm going crazy trying to find it or even set-up a rule to do it. I really need to be able to do it one by one... thanks!

AFAIK with MAIL it's all or nothing. Under Preferences > Accounts > Advanced there is an option but applies to the whole email account. No option for individual mails like Entorage has. There is probably a way to do with AppleScript?

I had the same Problem. There is a setting "Delete Mail from server when moved out of the inbox" But that just does not work. it is a bug. Period.

So I hope for the next update 10.3.7 or 10.4 to have this issue fixed.

Until then don't waste your time trying.

Good I'm not the only one who has had problems with this.

It seems like it does not always remove messages from my server when I delete them (move them from my inbox). It will do it eventually, but it takes several "get mail" iterations to do so. Since I have a web-based email page where I can check my mail when I am not on my mac, I don't worry about it too much, because everything eventually gets synched up to my mac. It is, however, annoying and should be fixed.

Perhaps you should try to change that rule, like remove it from the server after 1 day or something? Maybe those rules work.

Lastly, do you other members who have trouble with this run the mail app all the time or launch it and quit it according to your usage? I leave it running all the time so that it will check my mail every hour, and maybe that has something to do with it?

Well, I guess then it's going to be off to Firefox to check my work mail through the Outlook exchange server. I wish 10.3.7 would have brought a Mail upgrade!

The 'delete when moved from Inbox' works for me and would address your query.

What system Do you use? What Version of mail.

Maybe I'm not following the original question?? When I am at home and my .mac mail gets downloaded to my computer, I can delete or file each message as I wish. When I log on to .mac at work, the deleted messages are generally gone. If they are not, if I click on one of the deleted messages and delete that, then ALL that I had deleted at home go away.

They go into the appropriate IMAP folder -- Trash, etc. and are deleted from there on the schedule I set in Preferences.

Is that what you are asking?

I presume that the original question related to POP mail rather than IMAP mail.
