No window in Mail?

Pardon me if this is redundant; I couldn't find an existing topic.
Has anyone had problems with Mail:
- not displaying a window?
- refusing to quit?
Both have stricken me since I upgraded a short time ago. It looks like a few others are experiencing the same thing, if the posts to the Apple support forum are anything to go by. So far no theories as to why this happens or how to fix it. Advice is appreciated.
(BTW, running a haxie-free system at the moment, so I don't think it's a software conflict.)

Yes it's been covered before. If you have GPGMail installed, that's your problem. There's a 10.2 compatible GPGMail beta available, but I found it to be unstable.

I've never heard of GPGMail. Is it part of the BSD subsystem? Otherwise I have no idea how I would have it.
