Ever since installing Security Update 2007-009 1.1 on my MacBook Pro running 10.5.1, all of my iWork apps crash immediately upon launch (well, they bounce in the dock a few times, but then they crash). I've tried rebooting, and reinstalling (and re-upgrading) the iWork '08 package, but nothing helps.

I have a major presentation I have to give in a couple of days, and all of the content for it is in a Keynote 4 file (made on my office desktop system, same OS version, same Security Update installed) which is rendered useless on the laptop from which I have to give the presentation.

Help!

If you look at the crash log that might give you a hint to what might be the cause of this issue.

You can also try the usual troubleshooting routine:

Disable haxies.
Trash preferences.
Try another user.
Do an Archive & Install

I've trashed all iWork related preferences. Logging in as another user, I can open Keynote. Where else should I look in my environment for something that's keeping it from working for me?

Here's the top of the most recent Crash Log, in case someone can extract some information from it...

Create a new user, move all your stuff over to the new user account, then erase the old user. Do NOT erase the old user account until after you're convinced you've moved everything you need.

While an Archive and Install might work, it might also just bring over a corrupt system setting and cause the same problem again. Easiest might be to just create a new user.

I have just done an archive-and-install, and no joy. The problem is exactly the same as before. Presumably there is something corrupt in my user environment, and I'll have to go the way of transferring my home directory to a new user. Not an easy task, since it contains the accumulated cruft of many years and several machines.....

I wonder what has suddenly emerged from the swamp to bite me, and specifically with respect to iWork apps. Interestingly, Keynote 3 (from iWork '06) crashes on launch too.

The spell checker crashes when loading. If it also does crash when you turn it on in other programs (like TextEdit) then I guess something is wrong with it. Unfortunatley I don't know where it has its preferences or user word list so I don't know where to go to fix it.

Before you migrate to a new user you could first try renaming your Preferences folder, then log out and see if it fixes the problem with iWork. If it does copy over the important preferences from other apps (Mail etc.) to the new preferences folder.

Nope, sorry, but that didn't help: the problem isn't in the Preferences, but somewhere more insidious.

Thanks for the suggestions....
