After updating my iPhone 3GS to iOS 4.2.1, it seems to have lost all content as far as the iPod app is concerned. It's all there as far as I can see on the Mac I sync it with, and I can play it in iTunes on the Mac, but when I try on the iPhone itself, it just says "no content. you can download music from the iTunes store."

So this is apparently a known problem.
No, I didn't think of just re-syncing it -- what I did was Restore, and as promised that really did delete all the content I had on the phone (not the apps, it seems). Fortunately, I did have all of the content I wanted backed up, and could put it back after the Restore.

Does anyone know why this happens? I certainly don't remember seeing any warning about it.
