My macbook air says 20GB is in my users folder, but when I open that folder I see only 2GB there. Any idea where this other part of 20GB is? I'm trying to trim for El Capitan.

I don't store anything on the laptop, I only use it for email/ internet.

First up, run Disk Utility and check that there is nothing wrong with the file directory.

If that doesn't work, go to the terminal and type

Code:
du -hd 1 /Users
and see if you can see what is taking up all that space. Note M for Megabytes, G for Gigabytes etc.
The new Mac Pro has up to 30 MB of cache inside the processor itself. That's more than the HD in my first Mac. Somehow I'm still running out of space.

Thanks P, the DU went well.
I did terminal, it showed 15 GB of my main user account, no info though.
Bunch of lines for the test user and guest user, all said permission denied, but I don't "think" anything is in those...
In short, the terminal revealed no more than just clicking in finder.

So you move into your main user folder and do it again, like so:

Code:
du -hd 1 ~
to keep digging where the issue is.
