I know that Apple is marketing it as a app for Digital Photographers but would this app also be useful for people who shoot on film? It has some great features and would love to use it but I'm not sure if it's strictly for digital users.

Sure it is.
If you are not sure, Apple is finally offering a 30-day trial version of Aperture. Download it, give it a spin, and see if it works for you.
