Will this transition settle Apple as just a high-end PC brand with the option to run OSX to keep us Mac users (their base market) happy for a couple years?

Was this the most ovious thing to happen?

will we ever come back to a machine built around a "think different" mojo?

What do you see happening in 5 years from today?

Seriously, I've often wondered if Apple will drop the Mac in the future, and just make "cool" devices like the iPod. It wouldn't surprise me. If they made a Mini style media hub that did what Windows Media Center does, I think it would be a hit.

I don't understand why people think they would do that. It's not like they are losing money on their computers and software. Far from it.

One day the iPod will cease being the money maker for Apple. The Mac has been here for over 20 years. Why would they do away with it?

Not a discussion about anything Power Mac specific.
