I need a reader for many professional pdf files, that are simply downloaded from libraries and other prof. sources. The Kindle was lousy at rendering them. I'm looking at a refurb iPad, $349 seems a bargain. From reading around, I am left wondering how exactly do I transfer the files from my iMac to the iPad. Is there a simple way to do this? Or if someone has a better pdf reader solution I'm open to suggestions.

Thanks!

It's a drag and drop in iTunes. Simple.

Yep and good reader also has a network share mode where you can add files wirelessly.
Ways to get PDFs to the iPad that I know.
1) iTunes
2) email
3) cloud storage. Dropbox, sugar sync, .Mac, etc
4) wireless through good reader.

If you are getting iPad 2 with iOS4, the free iBooks app can read PDF files just fine, I don't think you need to get Good Reader. Using iTunes, you can just drop the PDF files into the book section when your ipad is connected.

Well, it's $4.99 for GoodReader, I think after shelling out $349 I can spring for another 5

Well, I have GoodReader for my iPhone 3G, too. It is a nice app, but if you get an iPad with iOS4, it will come with iBooks which can view PDF files just fine and it's FREE. I suggest you try it and see if iBooks is good enough for what you want to do, and if not, then by all means, get GoodReader. PDFs can be moved into the iBooks via drag and drop through iTunes, but GoodReader requires you to move PDFs into it using a local webpage link via a network connection.

There are two apps for the iPad I can't live without: iCab Mobile and GoodReader.

GoodReader does a lot more than read pdf files. It's one of my essential iPad apps.
