Hello. I have the option of buying a 20" ACD. It is the Late 2005 model.
I have a few questions:
(a) Will this work with the MacBook Pro?
(b) What is the difference between the late 2005 ACD and the newer revision?
(c) Would you buy applecare for something like this?
(d) Most importantly, is this a good price or should I keep looking?
Thanks for your help. I look forward to seeing what you have to say!

My best advice for buying a display is to NOT buy it from Apple. If there is ONE dead pixel, they won't exchange it. Microcenter will, so I buy anything with a display from Microcenter.

I would be buying it used from someone who bought it in December 2005. Thanks for the tip though.

What is the difference between a dead pixel and a stuck pixel? I have 5 stuck pixels on my monitor and I can't see them when anything but black is shown. Are dead pixels noticable even above a normal image?

Stuck pixels are stuck at a certain colour (brother had one that was bright pink), and sometimes you can 'massage' them out. A dead pixel never iluminates, and is just a black dot.

Sorry about that.
The differences between the Dec 2005 and the current ACD's, are Brightness, contrast, and response time.
I think it went from 270cd to 400cd, 400:1 to 700:1, and 16ms to 14ms. Otherwise they're the same.
It will work with the MacBook Pro.
You didn't say what price it is, so I can't tell you if it's a good price.
I wouldn't buy applecare.

Oops, thanks for pointing that out macgeek. The price is $400. Is it worth buying one of the newer displays?

Right now I'm using a 17" NEC MultiSync LCD1700NX. Will I see picture improvements (quality, etc) if I go with the 20" ACD?

Yes you will. $400 is a good price. I'd take it.
