On a different forum, related to HD-video issues, I just read:

Quote: "I have a Sony Vaio laptop 2.66GHz and 512MB RAM
WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER 10 plays 720p.wmv (5Mbps) files just fine. But only with the 110V adapter ON. When I run the laptop on batteries only, the video starts to become very jerky. This is because the processor speed is lower when using batteries." Unquote

My question: does the PPC processor in a Mac powerbook lower its speed too when it is running on battery power?

If so, why hasn''t an yone told me before?

Yes it does. These settings can be manipulated in the Energy Saver preferences.

Yes it does- but if you find this behavior to be detrimenal to what you use your PB for, you can disable it by forcing the PPC to run at full speed regardless. It will lower your battery life, however.
