i want to connect my current 3rd gen iPod to a set of speakers
and i found that it'd be nice to have a remote too...
but the AV cable kit provided by Apple is only for iPod 4th gen or above

does anyone knows an universal dock for 3rd gen iPod with a remote?

thanks

The Universal Dock works for my Photo iPod. That's a 4th gen, not a third gen. Are you talking about a color display (pre "photo iPod")?

'K... Some folks look at the monochrome screen clickwheel model as "3rd Gen" and sort of gloss over the rather huge change from monochrome scrollwheel-equipped "Dock Connector" models to the clickwheel models. Sorry I can't be more help.

I need to add that "searching other web forums for details on exactly what constitutes which iPod generation" is not only a pain, but confusing. I got REALLY confused - not by Apple (which I must point out does NOT use the "generation" terminology), nor by the Wikipedia entry for iPods, but by a couple of forums (I thankfully can't remember which ones right now because my head has stopped hurting finally) that had people mixing up the 1G and 2G models with the 3G model, and sort of blending the monochrome clickwheel model with the photo clickwheel model to psychadelicize my brain pretty awfully yesterday afternoon. I seriously recommend the Wikipedia article on iPods as a generation by generation (and capabilities) reference.
