I've got a friends 3G nano, which has suddenly decided it doesn't want to charge anymore. I've scoured Apple's support site trying all with no luck. Right now I'm trying the last idea I have - charging it for 30 minutes. It says a computer might not recognize it until then if it was completely dead, so maybe its not on then either.

Anyways, anyone have any other ideas other than what's stated on the Apple support site?

Looks like he'll just have to get a new one or send it in for repair, honestly...

Are you plugging it into a computer or wall charger? Try a wall charger and see what happens. You might also try using a different USB cable.

He plugged it in to a computer at his house, with his cable.

I've tried a computer and a wall charger at my house, different cables each time.

Try doing a manual reset (hold down menu+center button for 10 secs) and see if it reboots. If it doesn't, try that while plugged into a wall charger (NOT computer!).

Tried that. It reboots, then hits the low battery thing as soon as you try and do anything (this would be when the brightness goes up, too) and shuts down again.

Do as Tooki said,

Connect to wall charger.

Menu and center button held down for a few seconds til it restarts.

As soon as it's restarting, menu and left (diagnostics.)

Let it charge like this for 6 to 8 hours.

Thanks, I never knew about that.

I'll get back to you in 6 to 8 hours then.

Oh, and it was center and left. And you have to be quick.

That worked, thanks.

The thing just doesn't hold a charge at all. Bad news for him. Unless you guys have some other ideas.
