Okay, so I’m pretty horrified with myself, but my MacBook Pro went base-jumping and forgot the parachute. It’s now got a strangely beautiful, but very useless, cracked screen. Any idea how much Apple will charge me to replace it?

Doc, how do you handle that shipping, particularly the "to you" leg? Prepaid shipping box?

Anyway, at home in San Antonio (8th largest city in the US) there are 3 authorized Mac shops-and only one is not an Apple Store. How is the market there in the UK? Plenty of Mac shops? Only a few?

UK has a fair amount in London/Midlands, but north is fairly sparse.

You have to pack up the Mac yourself, but I have a contract with courier company TNT, who turn up at the customers house with all the transit paperwork and take it away and deliver it to me next day. I use the same packing to send it back when fixed, again via TNT. The fitting price on my website includes all the courier charges and the part and fixing all rolled into one.

Thanks. That puts things into perspective.

Cool setup. I guess it helps if the owner has kept his original packaging, it's perfect for shipping the machine.

Thanks. I’m investigating whether I can claim it on my insurance, so it’s good to have a price as a sort of benchmark. I had a look at your site, and saw no matte option, so I’m assuming you don’t have it? And at the risk of insulting you (not my intention at all), I’m assuming it’s the same part Apple use? I’m not keen to get a lower-quality panel.
