Finding Nemo US release date: May 30, 2003

Finding Nemo Oz Release Date: August 28, 2003

June... July... August. Three months.

Then they run old (damaged) US copies at the Oz cinemas.

Screw that.

Screw Disney.

Finding Nemo US DVD release date: November 4, 2003.

September... October. Two months after the Oz cinema release.

Well, I've already waited so long. Might as well wait a bit longer eh?

I'm getting my DVD player converted to multi-region.

Screw Disney indeed. Hell, the movie is SET here.

I'm just gonna pirate it. I don't plan on paying at all; not for the DVD, not for a cinema screening.

I *would* have otherwise...

I've never thought about pirating a movie before but if I did I could probably watch it now couldn't I?

Hmmm.

<goes looking for software>

edit: I've been looking forward to taking my son to the cinema for the first time. Finding Nemo was going to be the movie. But this is ridiculous.

If I do it myself modifying my DVD player would cost about the same as three cinema tickets anyway.

And it's just a software hack for my Mac's DVD player isn't it? Hmm...

I just found out I know someone with a pirate Nemo DVD already...

Finding Nemo = Pixar = G5 Power Mac and Mac OS X customer + Mac OS X software developer (Pixar RenderMan for OS X) = Apple is happy.

Thus, be a good Apple supporter and wait a few more weeks to see Finding Nemo in the theatres.

This movie demands a big screen too, anyway.

If Finding Nemo = Pixar = Steve Jobs = Apple, then Face Ache = Mac owner = treated with contempt = unhappy customer.

I'd much rather blame Disney. They're responsible for the release dates. Pixar just hands over the finished movie.

Some movies get simultaneous release down under (or even earlier on occasion) so it is possible.

More often they literally ship the old US cinema copies to Oz. You go see a movie and there's artifacts all over the screen. It's pathetic.

That depressing movie is not worth all the work. Regret seeing it. Plus, it is also a bunch of Disney's commonplace situations. However, the artwork is superb.

Monsters Inc. was a lot more Pixar-styled.

I could understand if there was some kind of legal issue, but you are correct, waiting three months is NUTS!!!

I could see a few weeks (one or two to get some of the overprints that they have) but come on... You would think that you lived in the middle of Russia or something where they brought the movies in on horseback!

Parent searching to rescue their kid? Nah... although if you notice Toy Story, Monsters Inc, and Nemo are all about someone trying to rescue someone in the end. Toy Story they rescue Buzz or Woody, man I can't even remember. MI they end up rescuing Boo, Nemo the whole movie is about resuceing Nemo.

Hopefully the incredibles will bring a new plot to the table.

Main characters are superheroes....
I'd bet there's gonna be some rescuing/saving someone involved.

... but then you'd miss those "bloopers / outtakes". Those can be the best part of the Pixar movies sometimes....

Yes, I was implying Pixar handles production, and Disney handles distribution. And if you suck it up and support Disney, then you support Pixar and Apple as well.

And BTW, I'm not saying supporting Pixar is supporting Jobs and thus Apple. What I am saying is that Pixar is a good customer of Apple's.

Yup, I'll actually own the dvd before I'm able to see it in the theater. That is really insane, but it has happened many times before.

I find this very strange since Iceland tends to be one of the first in Europe to release the Hollywood movies. Something very strange is happening here..........

What do I win?

absolutely. disney is alot more concerned with the bottom line than they are with "preserving the art".

just look at the schlocky sequels they threw together for secret of nimh. egad.

hm.. I did not have the same impression. I liked both Nemo and Monsters inc.

As far as depressing, we have an editor here who points out how many disney flicks have dead parents (Bambi, for example). I DO think its handled quickly and in the beginning of Nemo, so its not as focuses as say when Bambi's mother dies.

Do a google search for "Salvador Dali", "Disney" and "Destino."

They've fished out a 50 year old unfinished collaboration and slapped it together.

I missed the first few minutes, sister was taking me durring a point in time when we were getting along, (about 1/3rd or 1/4th of the time we have these weird points where she likes me for some reason) and she finnaly decided to leave like ten minutes late, so we arived at the theater like 5 minutes after show time, then finnaly got in just as Nemo and Marlin were arguing about him swimming out to the boast.

Thanks

I've been wondering how much this affects piracy. If it takes 6 months for a movie to get to all/most countries I would guess that many would prefer just getting it through Kazaa or DC. Does anyone know if piracy is more common in Europe/Asia compared to the US? or something like that. I'm tired so I'll let this do for now, but I hope you understand what I'm getting at.

Asia I think has rampant piracy although that's because the laws are less stict. I know you can buy a game boy game on the street for pennies.

Yeah, I could just see Dizzey slapping together a limited-motion 2-D sequel. Yuck!

I hate that about Disney flicks. Why does a parent seemingly always have to die? What's the need?

What about Aladin? He didn't even have a dad... or... actually he was the king of theives apparently... never mind... can't beleieve I remember that...

Anyway, yeah I never thought about that... perhaps it's psycological? People identify with characters who feel all alone and lost in the world. Most of us havn't lived our lives like this, but most of us seem to identify with that more than we would a loving corney mom or dad...
