Sounds like it'll sure beat using VPC for testing web sites in PC/IExploder.

Now if somebody'll just donate me a MacBook Pro (and copy of XP)!

Apple will have to do user surveys much like this poll to figure out which OS is running on their users' "Macs".
Scooters are more fun than computers and only slightly more frustrating

I don't think I'll be running it that much, but there's a few apps I need to use, and it will get my PC tower out of the office. It's just nice to have official Apple support for this.

Since I just bought a MacBook Pro yesterday specifically for the ability to dual boot into Windows, my answer is "definitely."

Actually, I've had a Thinkpad T60 on backorder for weeks now, and even though I figured I'd never buy another Apple laptop until they were made out of something other than metal (iBooks don't count), the allure of being able to use the same laptop for work and home was enough to sway me.

No chance!

I got rid of Windows within the first year after I switched to Mac OS (1999). In the meantime I have everything I need on Mac OS (if something is missing, I write it myself ).
I would be stupid, to get back all the windows problems, wouldn't I? I had a linux dual boot until last year but I rarely used it.

Dual boot sucks!

It could be useful though, to have XP or linux running in a protected environment within Mac OS like in virtual pc (but with native performance now) or like classic. With protected I mean, at least NO internet connection.

But I have a Thinkpad with Suse. It has an XP partition (that is not used at all and will go as soon as the linux partition is full). I prefer to use 2 computers over dual boot - really.

I have written it elsewhere: boot camp aims at windows users (but it might not win them because macs + a windows license are too expensive).

Hm, while I am writing this: maybe boot camp is truely a service for us, to enable us to use windows software.

I forgot to mention that I will be running Windows XP for games. Absolutely! And for playing DVD's. And for MS Access. And for certain Windows required websites. And most likely for email. And iTunes runs in Windows. And Skype. Come to think of it, there are really no apps that I need that require OS X. So my next Mac might make a Switcher out of me... back to Windows.

Why would you sooner watch DVDs on Windows than OS X?

I would run some virtualization software before I run a dual boot of XP. I would want to make sure that the XP viruses I'd get could be kept out of the rest of the machine. Basically the only thing that I'd use it for would be to play Battle for Middle Earth 2.

I would use it for games. That's it.

I would like to know if it's possible to install Windows XP on an external drive first, though - so I can keep all my evil Windows-related files as far away from my Mac as possible.

I'm purchasing a Macbook Pro just because of Bootcamp. I can finally ditch the Powerbook / Vaio laptop combo in favor of a single all-in-one solution. Wicked!

I installed it and I was playing Half Life 2 finally!

Let's just say I'm enjoying my favorite game's sequal and I didn't have to buy a PC to do it!

the only reason i am thinking about installing bootcamp and running XP will be to run VMWare (for work-related stuff) as they are do not appear to have a version i can run in OSX. i've tried using darwine to run both the linux & windows versions of the free player....but it does not appear to like that.

Personally, I will not install boot camp on my soon to arrive mbp.

I have no need for windoze apart from the odd directX game, which I have my home brew Athlon 64 rig purpose built for such occasions.

My mbp needs to be a clean and dedicated OSX system.

I'm undecided. If Parallels workstation can be a little more stable on my MBP I'd prefer to just stick with that. For the time being, I might have to give Boot Camp a try, as I need to test certain pages in IE6/7beta.

I never thought I'd ever, ever hear myself say this, but: the ability to install windows on my Mac is the whole reason I bought this new laptop a few days ago.

*shudder*

But seriously. I can either remain a purist and use my almost obsolete workstation at work, or I can install windows and use my top-of-the-line mac at work and just change into windows when I need to run specific applications. How can I say no? :-)

Most people don't care about OSX. If they did, then there wouldn't have been such a frenzy when bootcamp was released. "finally", the average customer thought to himself, "i can buy a shiny iMac but don't have to put up with that OSX crap"

I miss Sims 2 (I own a Windows copy, but not one for OS X)...

I'll be dual-booting my MacBook when it comes out.
