Finally got this new-to-me 2009 MBP running, but the keyboard lighting doesn't work. Took it to the genius bar, and they said it was, or probably was the logic board.

Its in great condition otherwise, not having been used much. The Battery has a 125 cycle count, and the keyboard/trackpad feels nice and tight. Is it advisable to have the logic board replaced for 2-3 or more years of life? I definitely need the keyboard lighting.

Depends on what they want for the replacement board, but normally not.
The new Mac Pro has up to 30 MB of cache inside the processor itself. That's more than the HD in my first Mac. Somehow I'm still running out of space.

Then no. Sell it to someone who doesn't need the backlight and get a new MBP.
