Any eclipse users here? I started a new job this year that have provided a very nice IBM ThinkPad (2.0 Mhz, 100 GB HardDrive, 2.0 GB of RAM) that I've been doing some newbie development on and what a joy it is to work on this machine. Especially compared to the iMac and iBook that are my only source of comparison (and an unfair comparison: they both only have 600 & 700 Mhz chips).

So I was wondering if anyone uses eclipse or any other larger IDE on a more modern mac because I'm considering upgrading to a newer iBook and I guess I'm looking for excuses. Any minimum specs you would recommend to run eclipse 3.2 or 3.3? (I could never find any system requirements on the eclipse website.)

Are you seriously only running 10.2.8? UPGRADE! A new MacBook should be fine for Eclipse usage, especially with Leopard.

Wow - you're comparing very old machines with a new ThinkPad. The thinkpads are nice, but you'll be blown away by a new Mac.

I've used eclipse for PHP development and really enjoy using it. I've run it on a G4-1.25GHz without any trouble and the Macbooks run it very well.

I'm using it as we speak on a MacBook, and it's never given me any trouble (at least any platform-dependent trouble - I'm not counting Eclipse's occasional stupidity here).

Any ramblings are entirely my own, and do not represent those of my employers, coworkers, friends, or species
