What with all the ice surrounding it, I'm thinking Wrath of the Litch King.

Make sense to announce when WotLK is coming out now that Season 4 is underway. Thanksgiving or Xmas, I'd guess.

Awesome! So no doubt the game is real, though I still don't see why a bunch of ice would make you think of Diablo over a game set in the icy north where you fight a guy on the Frozen Throne with a sword called Frostmourne.

Looks like Diablo3.com works as well (same site). I hope Blizzard has something other than Wrath up to play at Comic-Con.

well, i'm glad i was wrong. can't wait to play a barbarian again.

i still have an active diablo II battlenet account with a pvp barbarian i duel with every now and then. i have such fond memories of that class because of that game. i'm playing age of conan right now, simply because you can be a barbarian.

Diablo III

About damn time. Production had stopped in 2003 with the loss of quite a few key Blizzard North staffers.

It works for me in Firefox 3.

Actually, now that I try it again, it looks like it's broken now. Now I can get the characters page, but clicking on them leads to an XSLT error after a little while.

I think it's unlikely, as none of Blizzard's games have come out for consoles since Starcraft, and Blizzard's site only talks about releasing the game for Windows and Mac. It might come out on home systems if, say, Microsoft buys the rights, but I don't think Blizzard is looking in that direction.

Has anyone managed to play the movies yet? I can't enter a birthdate prior to 8/8/2001 on either Safari, Firefox 3, or Minefield. So I'm locked out of the vids. Can't see all the photos in Safari either

You have to use a scroll wheel. I don't think there are any clickable "scroll down" elements - strange that I would notice that, since I just automatically scrolled down to select my birth date, but I did.

Also, have you tried a browser other than Safari?

The witch doctor looks like almost exactly like the Necromancer:

Pets = Summons
Mind control = Curses
Poison = Poison

I'm guessing the Amazon won't return and will be replaced with the female Barbarian. Give Barbarians a bow tree and you basically remove the need for the Amazon.

I'd like to see a return of the Druid as well. He always seemed pretty cool to me - morally ambiguous, and possessing the ability to fight in numerous ways - with summons, elemental damage, and hand-to-hand combat.

What I enjoyed most about the gameplay video are the sounds. I haven't played Diablo 2 for years and yet the sound of a monster dropping loot sounds oh so familiar.

It reminds me of Gauntlet. I've never played a diablo game before, but this does look like a good time. I wonder if my mac will be able to handle it. (2.16Ghz imac, geforce 7300 GT, 2GB ram)

Like Luca said, the Witch Doctor is a reimagining of Diablo 2's necromancer class. No doubt they'll have a mage class. They had the sorcerer in Diablo and sorceress in Diablo 2 — the only question is what they're going to do now that they've run out of genders.

I never played Diablo 2 before the expansion existed, so I guess I'm jaded with the 7 I had access to.

The witch doctor does remind me of a necro as well, but you must admit it's reminiscent of a warlock as well. It's a shame that there won't be a necro (guessing here, but it seems that way), that was my favorite character because there was so many ways to play it.

Each character can be either male or female. There is no gender lock anymore, it is the players choice. It's in the FAQ.

I installed Diablo II on my Mac Pro. It plays ok, but the 800x60 resolution is just painful. I can choose between playing in a window the size of a postage stamp or playing full screen, which is blocky as hell on my LCD.

Did the D2 expansion increase the resolution to anything more reasonable? I never owned it.

It's Diablo.. with a dash of World of Warcraft in it.

I do hope this will not be an MMO, although it will certainly be some kind of multiplayer as Diablo II was. I want to be able to play through this game by my lonesome and at my leisure.

It looks good enough and I hope it will be fun to play because I will most certainly buy it! (unless it's an MMO)

I also don't want it to be an MMO. With WoW being so popular there's no reason for Blizzard to release another swords 'n' dragons MMORPG. Combine that with World of Starcraft and Blizzard would just be competing with itself at that point.

My one disappointment (and this is shared by many) is the artistic style. It's too much like WoW and War3. Overly bright, slightly cartoonish, and with a soft focus filter over everything. It should be dark, dirty, and "realistic" (relatively speaking of course; nothing involving zombies and sorcerers is going to be realistic in the literal sense of the word). The past Diablo games were so cool because they were so nasty. This one, not so much. But it's years from being released so I'm not going to get all worked up about it yet.

Diablo 3 won't be MMO.
Blizzard already confirmed that there's a new and unannounced MMO in development:

"There is still one unknown project," Blizzard executive VP Rob Pardo revealed to OnlineWelten during the Blizzard Worldwide Invitational. "We have another development team."

Pardo affirmed that Blizzard's recent job listings for an "unannounced next-gen MMO" were not related to Diablo III.

I agree, I will really enjoy the multiplayer aspect of this game, but I really want a single player mode where I can go through a storyline and finish the game alone. I guess we'll find out more later.

Anyone heard anything about a release date/time? I know Blizz always says "it'll be released when its finished" but anyone got a general time frame?

Only a Blizzard employee (who would be under NDA) would know anything about this, so any attempt to get even a ballpark figure would be 100% speculative.

Based on how developed it looks, it'll likely come out before the end of 2010, but that's not even for sure. A lot of Blizzard's projects have taken a long time. WoW took three years from when it was announced (fall 2001) to when it was released (fall 2004). Granted, it's an MMORPG which takes a lot more work, but still.

I think it would be reasonable to expect the release date to be anywhere between Q4 2009-Q2 2010. But in the end "it's done when it's done".

WoW really isn't a good example since Blizzard did absolutely nothing like it before. Diablo 3 is "just a sequel", most of the infrastructure for online-gaming already exists, et cetera.

Well, I guess Starcraft 2 will have to hold me over until Diablo 3 is released (I'm assuming SC2 will be released well before D3). I can think of much worse things.

If you really want a good dungeon crawler, there are options. I've heard lots of good things about Titan Quest (supposedly similar to D2 as a hack'n'slash RPG with l33t l00t). Downloaded the demo on Steam last night but haven't had a chance to play it yet.

Windows only, so you need Boot Camp.

Why not.

I'd like some more serious darkness and foreboding in the Diablo III graphics they remind more than a bit of World of Warcraft.

Obviously the two are related on some level, being made by the same company, but I think the two aren't made by the same people. Blizzard will make good cut-scenes at least!!
