Hi all,

Here's what I want to do, I'm just trying to find out if it's possible to do or not!

I've currently got two external HDDs - one is 320GB (Time Machine), and the other is 750GB.
What I want to do is buy a third external HDD (1.5TB most likely), and partition that into three partitions - one 320GB one, one 750GB one, and one 430GB (or so) with the leftover space.

I then want to use RAID to mirror what's on my two other external drives onto the equivalent partitions on the 1.5TB drive. How do I do this within Disk Utility, and is it set this up without having to erase or reformat my current two HDDs?

Many thanks.

unfortunately when RAIDing you have no choice but to format. all you can do is back up what would be erased onto the 3rd partition.

Thanks for the information ide3308 - I've never done anything with RAID before, so know very little about it.

What I could do in that case is split the 1.5TB into two equal partitions of 750GB, and copy what's on the 750GB HDD over to the second partition on the 1.5TB HDD. From there I could mirror RAID the 750GB HDD and the first 750GB partition together, and copy all the data over from the second partition to the 750GB HDD. I could then use a similar process for the Time Machine volume.

Is this correct?
