Well, it's time to retire the old Powerbook and while there isn't much on the computer that needs to be transferred, I need to get some archived email onto the new machine. How do I do this? I have a Zip drive I can use or I could just buy a USB or Firewire cable. Do I convert the email into a file? I'm using OS X's Mail..

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

A few questions:

Does the old Powerbook have Ethernet?
What e-mail client did you use on the Powerbook?

if you have Ethernet, all you need is a Cross-Over cable to connect it to your new Mac, then just turn on file sharing on the new Mac (the easiest) and then login via your old Mac, and transfer the files.

install the e-mail client you use on your Powerbook, and then once the e-mail is transfered over to the new Mac and in the right place (so the e-mail client can read it), then open up Mail and select import from the file menu. Choose which e-mail client you have and Mail will import it into Mail.

Both Powerbooks have ethernet and both use OS X's Mail.

So if i grab the ethernet cable out of my cable modem and connect the two together, I can login to my old mac and import the email? Sounds pretty easy, even for me.

Does the Powerbook have firewire?

If it does, you should be able to boot the laptop into firewire target disk mode by holding 'T' on startup.

This will basically turn your laptop into a firewire hard drive. Hook a FW cable from your laptop to you're new mac and it'll show up as a volume in the finder. From there it's just drag and drop.

Alternatively, you could use a firewire cable to connect the two computers. Shut down the old PB and restart while holding down the 't' key. It will start up in target disk mode and mount as an external disk on your new Mac. You can then just drag your old mail folder across.

Both ways are pretty easy.
