When I was working on a winows Compaq Presario notebook it was named Terok Nor in defiance of that platform. Die hard Trekkers will understand the name (was name of DS9 under Cardasian rule).

Also, do you notice how a lot of folks on Windows machines don't name their machines or know that they can?

My G3 hostname is Tetsubo, hard drives are Katana, Wakazashi, Hachiwara, Kusarigama, & Tachi.
My IIci (running NetBSD) is Jitte, hard drive is /dev/sd0.
My 6100/66 is Legomonstre (in light of the fact that it is in a chassis built of Lego bricks), drives are Monstre NO.1 and Monstre NO.2.
Additionally, my Linux/NT4 dualboot PC's hostname is Naginata, and my Cobalt Qube2 is ns1.

I have two main volumes:

"Acme" is my boot volume and has a Tex Avery icon...

XXgig is my new 20gig BellStor Firewire disk.

Zip names are where I get creative. It all started when I found them going out to magazines and certain printers with collected Quark files and never coming back... So I named them, hoping that at least the thief will constantly be reminded that the disk is a stray and needs to be returned to its parent. Current names are Chocolate, Gleemonex, Fluke, Vapid, Ginger, Fluffy...

On my PowerBook the drive is still "Macintosh HD", but that is going to change shortly once I get my 4x120GB FW case all setup Anyone have any ideas for these drive names (will need a total of 5 themed names)!?!

my iMac is Fred, he'ss been Fred for almost two years now.
he used to have other names... but I discovered Macintalk, and Fred is offically the coolest voice!
when I get my iBook it shall be Vicky, after Victoria. And my Power Mac will either be Fred mrk II, or Ralph not sure if I like Ralph though!

I was prodded into naming my Mac a few years ago by a friend who hassled me like a drill sargeant until I did it.

I named her Yvonne, after my first crush at age 5 on Yvonne Craig, who played Batgirl on the 60's TV show Batman. The incredibly sexy Batgirl costume had me riveted to the set, and her secret identity of nice-girl librarian Barbara Gordon is probably why to this day I have a thing for nice-girl librarian types.

I actually got to meet her at DragonCon a few years ago, she was totally nice!

I like your thinking! I've been on a space theme for years now.

My desktop machines are space centers: Canaveral and Baikonur.

Portables are space stations: Salyut and Skylab. (Using Mir just seemed like asking for trouble.)

Other drives and peripherals are satellites/satellite programs: Corona, Vela, Telstar. The new iPod will either be Sputnik or Vanguard.
