Clich Software today released BurnoutMenu, a simple to-do list for Mac OS X that sits in your menu bar. We think it's probably the easiest and least obtrusive one out there, but we might be biased.

BurnoutMenu lets you track items in multiple categories at a glance. Just one click lets you see what you need to do and how important it is. You can even modify items without opening any windows, reducing desktop clutter.

--

Anyway, enough with the marketing bull, it's $5.95 and it's at http://www.clichesw.com/products/burnoutmenu/

Can this app import the to do list from iCal? If it cannot it would be a good idea.

No, it can't. We'll look into it. By the way you can pay in our local currency, it's only 3.98

Very beautiful! I'll definitely register it soon.

The only suggestion I can think of at this time is ball color. Maybe you could organize them by:

Red
Orange
Yellow
Lime Green
Green

What do you think?

iCal support is definitely going to be added to the next version, which, by the way, will be free for users who registered.

I would pay but I can only pay if you have a method that accepts solo. Looks like after 27 days I'll have to uninstall it. Unless some generous person with a visa, hehe

I have to admit the ball colours are a bit weird..

Yay.
Someone mentioned the idea of different colour balls for the importance, could you have themes for it. Where it changes the importance colours and the little menu bar icon? Just curious ...

The menu item icon is an Unicode char
we will probably implement custom status/priorities in the next update.

I find Check Off by Ricci Adams quite nice. Its free, and it uses the uber cool genie effect.

I'd say that Check Off and BurnoutMenu is targeted to two different crowds. One's simplicity and other one's eye-candy/flexibility.

I'd still use both and see which one fit me better. As long as it is better than Konfabulator's To-Do widget, everyone should be happy

Just a quick question: Do you think it'd be better to have a preference pane to handle the setup of BM rather than clutter the menu with more options? I think this would be good, but it might lose some of the simplicity...

no I prefer it in the menu rather than in a prefpane.

Well all you'd need the prefpane for is the settings, not the management of to-do items, of course.

Just put a menu item labeled "Setup" and have that open a window to adjust settings.

Or "Preferences..." but I'm just worried that the menu is going to get cluttered.

Here's how I see it.
It'd be like:
--------------------
Category Name
Item 1 >
Item 2 >
item 3 >

Category Name
Item 1 >
Item 2 >

More >
--------------------

And the "More" menu could include all the other items in its submenu (I'm talking about "About..." "Register..." "Manage..." and eventually "Preferences..."

Is that a good idea?

That sounds brilliant! I was looking at the colours and at the moment they are:
Done = Grey/Graphite
Urgent = Red
High = Green
Normal = Blue
Low = Purple
Very Low = Orange

I would have thought it would be more due to the colour eg.
Done = Grey/Graphite
Urgent = Red
High = Orange
Normal = Yellow
Low = Light Green
Very Low = Light Blue
Going from brightest to dullest. But if you were to add 'themes' to the software there would be no need
Brilliant softtware, using it as we speak. Just needs 'Due in date' hehe

1.01 is almost ready..
don't be fooled by the 01, it's still a ... more than minor update... well.. yeah hehe

For iCal support, do you want

a) an import feature (it imports selected iCal to you items )

b) a ical todo sync feature ( can read AND save to the calendars.. doesn't not just import )

Thanks!

Is anyone interested in localizing a lproj (package of localizable files) in their language under the NDA? [email protected] if you are.

edit: We have English, Japanese and French.... we'd need german and anything else! spanish maybe?

Both would be cool, but as long as it imports it'll be cool
