You may remember the iPod imitation for PocketPC that was in the news last week. Looks like it has been pulled. Thoughts? I personally thought it was a bit lame, but I wouldn't have thought it would have any users anyway because the entire appeal of the iPod was in the hardware (size of disk, look and feel of the hardware).

I didn't see it but it could have infringed on a few levels. Well, two mainly.
Software patent - Utility Patent, and Design Patent.

Yeah, but I heard that Apple only had patents on the hardware devices, and thus replicating the hardware in software wasn't necessarily covered. Still, from what I hear it was a pretty sucky MP3 player on a platform that only has a small amount of flash memory, so...

What makes me laugh is the programmers...
So you wanted to sell a program that looks and acts EXACTLY like a piece of hardware, and charge money for it?
Great idea
They probably could have redesigned it a bit and made it work, but they didn't bother...

First off I am not surprised I saw it comming. But all it was, was a software that the interface looked like an iPod it had everything just like if you took a picture of a 3G iPod and then you could scroll and everything like an iPod everything was the same.

You can use your fingers. And a Pocket PC can hold a 4GB CF card just fine. Just super expensive.

Yeah, but how many people's Pocket PCs have 4GB CF cards? An iPod mini costs less than a 4GB CF card.

Unless you buy a Creative MuVo2 and rip the 4GB CF out of it for $200.
Either way, still pretty dorky. Like zachs, I too wonder why other Apple interface enhancements (expose, dock, gui, etc clones) haven't been pushed out by Apple Legal. Is it because the iPod has become such a huge cash cow for Apple?

I have some great news for people who were looking to use the pBod as a replacement for the iPod... I just saved a butt load of money on my car insurance by switching to Geico!
