I ordered a new MacPro (with a wireless keyboard) a few weeks back. My shipment date was February 12th. Yesterday I was in the local Apple Store and during a conversation with a sales rep, i was told that the wireless keyboard is smaller than the wired ones. Apparently, the wireless keyboards don't have directional arrows or the numeric keypad. Well, not knowing this i wanted to modify my order.
So i called up Apple last night and asked them to switch the wireless keyboard to a wired keyboard. That's it, no other changes! I hear lots of typing and then before i know it, the Apple Rep tells me that my order was cancelled and i have a new order # with the wired keyboard.
If i had known he had to completely cancel my order to change a keyboard, i never would have changed it. My current computer is dying quickly. Hard drive failure i'm pretty sure. (side not: i was in the apple store to purchase an external hard disk because i didn't think my computer would make it till i got my new machine). SO TIME IS OF THE ESSENCE!
Now my MacPro shipment date is Feb 20th. Yes, only 1 week later, but i feel that he should have told me he isn't able to modify orders.......
Am i wrong here?

The wireless keyboard has an inverted-T arrow keypad, just not the numeric keypad. Its exactly like the MacBook keyboard (same layout, same size).
As for changing the order, I know that at some point in Apple's order system, no more changes can be made to an order without redoing the whole thing. Not sure at what point this is, but I'm assuming its just prior to system assembly. Pretty typical of most BTO system vendors (Dell included).

Par for the course. I think other computer companies do the this as well. I was ordering a Dell computer for my wife and I had to change the order. I couldn't just call them to modify the existing order but instead it had to be cancelled and re-entered. This was supposed to be for her birthday and by making the change it cut it close.

I know, I've been trying to convert her for years. If I bought her Mac, I'd be sleeping on the couch. I'd rather incur the ire of my fellow 'NN members then my wife (she punches hard too)
